The winner is ..... VENUS. And by a wide margin you all knew the answer. You guys are a smart bunch!!! Destiny and Guardian Radio have the best fans!! DE4THINC4RN4TE had it right, the photo was taken from the Soviet lander Venera in the 70's. More info on the photo can be found here: http://wanderingspace.net/2006/11/the-surface-of-venus-revealed/

It helps if you read the post before voting. Looks hot and sulphury so I'd say Venus if I could change my vote. I hope there will be more MOAR SCIENCE!!! Also do you know any good websites (or apps) about the solar system, I'd like to read up on it so I'd like something quite in depth but not too technical.

    • I really just face palm when i see people put gas giants, WITH NO ACTUAL SURFACE TO LAND ON, as planets they want to visit. I would probably say Europa as its got a lot of attention lately and it's virtually a giant underwater ocean, would make gameplay interesting. P.S. Mars and venus already have their own race so neither really should be an option.

      • Poll closes on Tuesday at 5PM PST. Get those votes in, currently Venus is in the lead with 48 votes and Mars is in second with 23. 3 poor souls guessed Jupiter... so here's a science fun fact, if Jupiter has a solid core at all, scientists think it could be composed of pure diamond. This idea was actually first suggested by science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke. But there is now evidence to suggest it "rains" diamonds in the lower atmosphere of Jupiter http://www.nbcnews.com/science/jupiter-saturn-skies-are-filled-diamonds-8C11371619 COOL!

      • I'm going to guess Mars, as the only other probe I know of that was supposed to enter the atmosphere of a celestial body was the one sent to Titan, and it was destroyed in the atmosphere.

        • This a picture of the surface of Venus, taken by a Soviet Lander from the Venera program. If I'm not mistaken I believe this is from Venera 13.
