Are you writing anything? (Stories/Novels/Etc)

If you are, feel free to detail what you are currently writing in this thread. Or feel free to post what you are planning to write. My ideas:
I'm planning to start a novel (not to be published as it will end up being shit obviously, it will just be for fun). It will be a Fantasy novel set in some medieval-like world. It'll be low fantasy, meaning there is no magic or anything, just swords and shit. It will mainly deal with the inner workings of a kingdom, with the main character being close with the royal family. There won't be a 'big bad evil' or anything, the main conflict will revolve around a rebellion within the Kingdom. I don't plan to write it so one side is 'bad' and the other is 'good'. By the end both sides will end up doing things they will regret. The role the main character plays will help show this clearly. I plan for it to have a tragic/sad ending, plus with some other shit going down throughout. If anyone here has played Tactics Ogre; the scene at the end of the first act heavily influenced something that will happen in the novel. I am kinda vague, but I do have most of it planned out already (characters, twists, etc), I just don't want to give away my idea. Just need to start writing. Also have another idea, but nowhere near detail as the above one. It is high fantasy, and has magic. The Magic is heavily focused on the idea of 'summoning' (likely would be called something different) where people can essentially go through a ritual to summon a piece of their soul into physical being, like a guardian of sorts. The ritual itself requires both knowledge and resources, though, so the only people who are really capable of it are the nobles/royals, meaning it wouldn't be a common place thing. That's all I have for that idea so far, though. Haven't really expanded on it yet.
Also currently writing a fan fiction (Fate/Stay Night). Actually like half way through this one and have a bunch of chapters up on a fan fiction website, so if anyone wants to read it I can send a link. (doubt many here have read the VN anyway).

  • Sounds like you were influenced by Song of Ice and Fire too. I'm working on building a medieval/fantasy world right now. I have the main plot, side plots, names, and some lore. I just sketched the continent earlier with its countries. Tomorrow I'm going to plant some cities in there too.
over the past two years I've been throwing together my own (science fantasy) fictional universe that combines mythology, historical events and people, and a lot of hours spent playing with ideas from tvtropes; but that's ultimately axillary to the main original stories/characters/world history I've been throwing together. So far I have a timeline spanning several hundred years, with several major story-lines plotted out, world history that influences later stories (as well as major events that take place in earlier stories that explain motivations and situations of later ones) political ideologies of conflicting groups that merge and change and reinvent themselves over the course of the in universe history, and pretty much every other aspect of world building you can think of bar fictional language. As it currently stands the only major story arc (of which i've got seven painted out in broad-strokes) is a cold-war cyberpunk story that takes place at about the halfway point on the timeline, which follows the main character's attempts to escape the draft (it becomes a cold war gone hot story) and cheat the system to survive, while running into and becoming part of the plans of defectors, deserters, and usurpers; in addition there's a lot of trans-humanism aspects at play that would take a while to explain, and the entire scenario is setup, so that while it looks like an over the top sci-fi story, it's actually a lot more fantastical (see magic and mythology) than it appears.
Yeah, even that summary is a mess, I've been storing it all in my head and it's more complete than it sounds, but it really needs more work and documentation.
Did I mention that for the 5th major story arc, It turns out there's a whole tone of time travelers influencing the whole thing? i have immortal characters appearing several times throughout who go forward in time (see: living) and back (see: related to the ending of the cold war story, told you it was kinda magical) and sideways (There's a system of magic I've been tinkerign with related to multiverses and other over the top things)...
• I wrote this years ago.
It was a dark night a storm raged overhead, the clouds being rent in two by lances of white hot electricity. They were tired, but the night had just begun. "Come on Jason, we've got to get inside" Mark was worried, his sister Grace had taken a bad hit from one of the infected and unless they got to a safe house quickly to patch her up she'd only hinder their survival efforts. There had been five of them, Mark, Grace, Jason, Kate and William, but in their haste Will had set off a car alarm which alerted every infected being in a four block radius. As the creatures mistakenly known as zombies swarmed them Kate was pulled away by a smoker, and dragged through the horde, Will then pushed after her and was lost in the crowd. Using a Molotov cocktail Mark had cut the horde off from the street they escaped down, leaving Will and Kate to their unknown fate. Hurrying into a multi storey car park, the remaining three didn't notice the creature watching them, for they had passed onto his land and they would pay in blood. ._. It was dark inside, whatever lights did work albeit flicker gave enough illumination to see by. "Are we ever going to be safe"? asked Grace, her voice not giving away her injury but her pale face made it obvious. "I don't know, I just don't known" replied Mark "when I get through this I'll be looking forward to an ice cold beer and a house that doesn't have to be 'safe' to be liveable" said Jason "guys, do you hear that"? urgently asked Grace. The two men came to halt and in unison held their breath listening intently all that was heard was the trios shallow breathing, until another sound made itself clear. Footsteps, like that of an elephant but only one monstrous being made such lumbering footsteps. William had once compared them to zombiefied hulks and that was the best description yet. Jason was the quickest of them and gave the warning "RUN". the beast came charging around the corner smashing through pillars and cars to get to its quarry, the tank would not stop until it or its prey was dead. "Mark, Grace get to the stairwell" shouted Jason, they had just made it into the doorway when a almighty roar was heard. Jason turned and beheld the tank lifting a car and hurling it at them, time seemed to slow as he gave a roar of his own and pushed the siblings through the doorway. The car hit the doorway and parts of the metal frame were embedded in the wall, "go on without me" whispered their friend as he ran away, back to the open street firing his rifle at the tank to lure it away. ._. After ten minutes of quiet mourning Grace looked up at her brother, his fists bloody and bruised from punching the car, the wall, the floor. Laying her hand on Marks shoulder "we can't stay here it's not safe" "you're right there's nothing more we can do Jase gave us a chance to reach safety, lets not waste that" Mark sighed "I just…." he shook his head, "lets just go". ._. Neither of them had said a word in the time it took to get to the safe house, the cherry red reinforced door acting as a beacon to them. As soon as the door was bolted Grace collapsed in the center of the room. "GRACE, no no no, don't do this on me, I'm sorry I forgot about you, please don't die you're all I have left…" the rest of his words transforming into sobs and calls to his sister. Blood started to seep from the bandaged wound on her back, and Grace gave her final breath. Hours later the body was wrapped in any blankets Mark could find. He carried the corpse to a spot in an alleyway and set it alight, so nothing could defile the body. Going back to the safe house Mark threw himself against a wall, sank to the ground and relapsed into cries on agony. In his grief he didn't notice the armour plated door open until it was to late, the hooded creature shrieked and pounced on the broken human. As the hunter began ripping his entrails open Marks mind brought him back to the point where this tragedy began. William had shot a car causing the alarm to alert a horde. Just as their hellish screams reached the ears of the group Kate, ever being the pessimist muttered a grim prophecy. "This won't end well".
I've tried my hand at FanFiction (I posted that on FF), and I'm giving it ago again (maybe) with a story I left. I still have the outline of it I did all those years ago, so just maybe...

      • Got a sci-fantasy saga on the go at the moment, I'm on book 3 of like twenty, been at it for a few years. Also a contemporary psychological drama set in school in 2009. An odd number like that because that's when I started writing it. Hopefully I can make a career of it soon.

Working through book 3 of a low fantasy series. The setting is in medieval England, spanning the decades after a full blown invasion by a group of mysterious religious fanatics known as the Inquisition. I try to keep things unpredictable, and most main characters usually end up dead by the end of their respective books. The first was a short story, only about 30 A4 pages long, focusing on an assassin hired by a vengeful noble to avenge his fathers death, and the violent consequences this creates. The main theme is revenge, and how it usually does more harm than good. The second book is much longer, coming to 100 pages. It takes place years after the first book, and its main protagonist is a farmers boy who pledges his allegiance to his House, following his transformation into a killer. Other primary characters include three young nobles dealing with their new found power, a politician trying to protect those he is loyal to, an assassin finishing an old contract, and a mysterious northern Lord with a secret weapon. Due to the events of the first book, the realm is still in chaos, and they are all caught up in a series of political power plays and betrayals that lead to all out war between various factions. The main theme is how those willing to make the boldest and most brutal moves are those who are most likely to succeed. The third book follows a young Inquisitor as he tries to stay afloat in the capitol, dealing with the war that is threatening to usurp their now wavering power.

          • I'm not writing anything, but I used to be big on CL and A:tLA fanfiction.
I want to write a series about three warring factions with each one having its own book. It will be just one book for each, but they will all take place at the same time and simply give their side of the ordeal. One side is going to be democratic republic, one will be absolute monarchy (an actual working one with an actually great leader as king) and a communistic one. Each will have their pros and cons fleshed out and eventually they go on an all out war with one another.
• I've always wanted to write a science fiction novel. I have the background, the plot, the characters everything; but between college work, seeing a psychologist and sheer lack of willpower I haven't even started. I wanted to write it in a way that was philosophical regarding a wide range of social issues from politics and economics to age and mental disorders within an engaging and interesting plot.

                • A whole series of novels, set primarily in a fantasy setting, though at one point I had thoughts of writing one book set in that universe that's set in the far future of the series and upgrading the setting in that particular book to sci-fantasy. And way too many fanfics to even begin to counting them all or giving summaries about them....my most important fanfic and the one I would probably consider my biggest undertaking is a crossover between Halo, Mass Effect, and Star Wars. As to that fantasy series I mentioned: The original trilogy I thought up is the Dragon Wars Trilogy, though that name might wind up changing. I've been working on the whole entire story universe for about six years now at the very least. I completed the first book in the trilogy a couple years ago, though it's the only one...eventually I hope to get it all published, hopefully. Not even really sure where to begin describing it, my main inspiration for the series was Lord of the Rings and the rest of Tolkien's work in that story universe.
