Halo isn't a dead franchise its dead in the hearts of many hardcore veteran fans including myself. The call of duty influence won't allow arcade-like shooters to be as encouraged as ud like. It's business, bungies contract ended at the peak of halos potential as a franchise. With the new generations and tech, halos standard formula will not fit in with the overall money making audience.
Id be willing to bet bungie knew it was time to let halo go and not renew the contract. Halo Reach was as far as they could push the halo formula without breaking it and they knew sticking to it would end up with them left behind or pissing off their fans like 343 has done.
