What is the Vanguard?

I have a new theory. Maybe it's a Vanguard.
From what I can gather, it sounds like the Vanguards are some sort of recon for planets. Hence the "Awaiting reports from Vanguard" message we see from the "Welcome to the Frontier" hub.
Also, those Vanguards could be the small orbs that you see in the first picture of the Warlock shown here.

I think these two nailed it, but add your thoughts. The Vanguard vaguely reminds me of a Forerunner Catalog.

1 ReplyI think Vanguard is a position to be appointed to because in one of the mailsacks they said seasoned Vanguards will still have fun with new players or players that just don't have enough time to invest in the game. I think the Vanguard they are talking about in the Frontier is a person of that position who is on the specific planet gathering info.

I don't think the Vanguards are the spheres, Those seem to be a Warlock only item(Speculation Only) Vanguard is the Norse word for Guardian, in Norse Mythology the Vanguards were the Guardians the the gates of Asgard... (If I am wrong feel free to correct me.) so I believe that the Vanguards are going to be kind of like Advanced Guardians so to speak...

I believe a vanguard is a sort of "rank". First off, we know vanguard is a type of armor. We assume it was a high ranking armor. This would also make sense when bungie said "Awaiting reports from Vanguard". It could be a high ranking player, someone that would have a lot of knowledge.

I think a Vanguard might be a player who has finished storymode. Or since you probably can't 'finish' storymode since it's on going, they might be players who are up to date with all the missions.
