Are the Factions like Chivalric Orders?

In the above image, the Tower Hangar desktop, we can see the New Monarchy symbol on the large red banners. In this image, we can see what looks like a variant of the Dead Orbit symbol emblazoned on another banner. Both these images feature humans, so these faction symbols probably don't represent hostile races. Perhaps they represent the Guardian's version of chivalric orders? It would fit with the fantasy/medieval themes of Destiny, and the idea of the Guardians being knights.

  • I see it less of an over all power struggle and more of a "We have the better guardians! Choose the new monarchy! screw dead orbit and their weakling guardians!" kinda like rivaling noble familys trying to impress the king sorta deal. But that's a complete shot in the dark, I don't really have an opinion on the matter so...

  • Sorry for being off topic, but is anyone else wondering why the guy in the dead orbit pic is wearing elbow pads?

    • I hope that this is the case. Some Machiavellian, complex and devious feudal shenanigans as part of the background fiction, a la Dune or Game of Thrones would be a fantastic addition to the Destiny universe.

    • to be honest, I always thought of the human guardians being against everyone else (cabal, vex, fallen). so what confuses me is why the factions would fight each other. i think it would be cool if there were factions, and that was incorporated into the multiplayer pvp aspect of the game, but not the main regular co-op play.

      • I agree. I think over the course of the game each of these factions will evolve with the players. But at some point of the game we choose who we are with. Who you are with comes with certain perks. The New Monarchy obviously having their own ship or hangar.

        • That is an interesting idea and one that makes a lot of sense. I would love to see what each of these orders are like and what each one brings to the table if these factions are indeed Orders. We are all Knights after all. It only makes sense to belong to an Order.
