Entrepreneurship.
Right now most people in school, from high school all the way through doctorate programs are thinking about who they will go work for. It never occurs for them to think of themselves as their employer.
Fr the USA at least, our culture, our system is based on capitalism. The way that works is that businesses grow big, fail and are then gobbled up by a new generation of businesses that do the same. For this you need businesses. Lots of them.
When I grew up nothing existed to teach entrepreneurism. As a result no one knew how to start a business. And now record unemployment.

First we need to change the environment to be more friendly to entrepreneurs and people starting up businesses, as well as already existing businesses. I would first like to eliminate all the suit-happy people and their legal friends. Just wipe them all out. Back up in NorCal lawyers would run around with disabled people and shakedown businesses that didn't quite meet the very intricate and impossible regulations for accessibility. A café near my home had to close down for a long time and spend tons of money remodeling to avoid such b.s. Nobody talks about this. Bogus lawsuits and weak-willed people are a serious problem. It is criminal.
