Interesting Hospital "Trip"

Oh the joys of having to go BACK to the hospital. All of which you try to never have to set foot in again.

It all started this morning (2/9/13). Me and my fiance were woken up by the night nurse at 4am. Our son's heart rate was low. It stayed in the low 50's and 60's for 30mins. (Which is normal now seeing he is 14 months old). This nurse is only here maybe once a month so she's not used to the new rates. So my son is now up and fully, and yet tired, awake. The nurse calls our son's cardiologist doctor but get connected to the on-call nurse/fellow. Speeding up a bit. We head to the hospital at around 6am. My fiance works at the Amplatz Children's Hospital we went to, which is where we were when our son was born. Ok, so ending part of the story. There was a miscommunication between the night nurse to the on-call doctor. She forgot to state what the number 30 was for. The doctor thought she was saying the heart rate was in the low 30's. By now it's like 10:30/11am. I tell the doctor that the 30 was referring to the time he was in the low 50's and 60's for heart rate. He then was in no concern and said we could go back home. Otherwise they would have kept our son in there for 48 hours, which is totally unnecessary since we have 24hr nursing care. We get the ok to go home. Our doctor isn't concerned with low 50's and 60's just because of the medical history to now.

Now we have to have this mini-EKG monitor and record every hour or so. Then bring the little machine back to the hospital so they can analyse it. Ugh, today has been interesting, Flood.
