The idea with tags, as I understand it, is to lump topics into smaller, more specific buckets. One of the problems with this, however, is fragmentation... Where many similar, but distinctly different, tags are used to categorize content of a similar nature. We saw this in the early phase of the beta with the use of #Flood and #TheFlood (which I believe are still being used).
Here is my suggestion.... When tagging a topic, the list of suggested tas should be ordered by popularity. That way, rather than try and guess what the right tag to use is, I can simply see what others are using.
For example: When creating this topic, I wanted to use the tag #BungieNext (which I believe to be the correct one). However, I had to scroll half-way through a very long list of tags to find it.
There is already a page that lists the most popular tags. I'd just like to find some way to make that list availible to people as they create topics.
What do you think?

Oh man, I agree. I've seen another site do something similar (it pops up similar tags as you type them in and then with a count of how many times it's been used), and it works really well. You don't get strange tags that don't quite make sense.
