•
Posted by: Dr Syx
Posted by: General Heed According to that quote, I clearly said Halo 2 Vista "ran" just fine on Windows 7. I clearly meant the game just running. When I was talking about the issues related to Windows 7 and Halo 2, I was referring to the most common issues of the game simply not running. Back in the old GFWL forums, that seemed to be the most common issue. I know I replied directly to your post about the lag and other issues, but I was talking about the more general issue of the game simply not running.
So you're going with being confused and clearly missing the point of what I was saying. Got it. Just because I know you'll claim you knew the point, here's why you missed it: I clearly wasn't talking about the game simply running at all. The problems I mentioned were frame rate drops, mouse lag, etc. If what you were saying was about how Halo 2 Vista does run on clean retail installs of Windows 7, not only were you wrong for stating that as a fact for everyone but you were also completely off-topic to what I was talking about.
I know the Xbox version runs at a much lower resolution than the PC version, however, if you just look at the texture details, the Xbox version is slightly more detailed at close distances than the PC version on Low settings. I think it's detailed enough for it to be pretty close to Medium settings on the PC.
My point was that Halo 2 Vista on the PC is better looking graphically than Halo 2 on the Xbox. The textures themselves might be better but that means nothing when you're dealing with absolutely abysmal resolutions. Definitely if you're playing on a modern HD screen. Hell, Halo 2 Vista looks better than Halo 2 Xbox on low at 800x600 which is the lowest resolution I can set it to. I guess you could say it's up to opinion but I feel this would qualify as a bad opinion. I find it hard how anyone would think the Xbox version looks better as a whole against Halo 2 Vista on low simply because the textures seem to have a higher quality. The higher resolution in the textures mean nothing if the game's resolution is horrendous beyond belief.
Well, I have yet to see anybody not able to get Halo 2 Vista to run on a clean retail (non-oem) installation of Windows 7. Now the systems I've seen tested all used an Intel CPU and all either used Intel HD Graphics or nVidia GeForce. AMD components might have a different effect. Anyways, at the very least, a clean install using a retail copy of Windows 7 should fix the problems for most people. I fully agree Halo 2 Vista has much better graphics overall than the Xbox version. I was just picking out really small details. However, if I recall correctly, a lot of people criticized Halo 2 Vista for it's lack of significant graphical improvements over the Xbox version. I'm not really sure what else could have been improved unless people were expecting improvements similar to Halo Anniversary. Just out of curiosity, but do you think it's possible for modders to release a high-res texture pack for Halo 2 Vista? I've seen similar things in Halo PC and I know in many other PC games you can do the same thing. I'm not sure if it's even possible for Halo 2 Vista, though I've seen some pretty impressive mods.
