Posted by: Dr Syx
Posted by: General Heed I never said Halo 2 Vista would be perfect on a clean install. I'm just saying it runs. On many OEM installs of Windows 7, Halo 2 Vista just simply won't start up, and according to many others, they experience the same thing. As for clean installs of Windows, I can only testify that it works for Windows 8. I've only tried running Halo 2 Vista on three different computers with clean and OEM installs. However, based on those three tests, Halo 2 Vista always runs on the clean install of Windows 7, while it only ran on one OEM install. Windows 8, simply 100% of about 10 people confirmed it works. Again, performance is a different issue. I'm just talking about getting Halo 2 Vista to simply run.
Oh, you were huh? That's odd because you said:
Here's the thing, I'm almost positive that the issues with Halo 2 and Windows 7 are a result of OEM installs which may have weird drivers. The OEM install of Windows 7 on my Alienware laptop couldn't run Halo 2 Vista. But then a clean install of Windows 7 using a retail copy, ran Halo 2 Vista just fine on the exact same hardware.
That being in response to me talking about mouse lag, frame rate drops, etc. I never once mentioned the game running or not. Either you were confused or you're making stuff up to cover your tracks instead of simply admitting you're wrong about it.
Halo 2 Xbox looks most similar to Medium settings because of the texture detail. If you look at the hand holding the sniper rifle, you'll notice the level of detail on the xbox version is closest to Medium on the PC version. It's true that they're all really similar, but High Quality definitely does have a noticeable difference compared to the Xbox version. Also, I'm basing this comparison off Halo 2 on the Xbox 360. There is a bit of graphical improvement to the game running on the Xbox 360. And that should be closer to medium. However, Halo 2 on the original xbox is probably closer to low settings, however, i think some details are close to Medium still.
The screenshot that was taken on the Xbox version was being run on the Xbox 360. What you need to understand is that there's no clear "Medium is the Xbox version". While certain things like textures are dimmed for performance on Low with Halo 2 Vista, you can easily point out all of the stuff in the Xbox version that are absolutely abysmal (Running on the 360 even) that easily lead up to it being no where near as good as Vista. For -blam!- sake, it's stretched 480p. Just look at these two examples of what it looks like on a 1080p monitor
Halo 2 Vista on Low Settings Halo 2 Xbox version (Running on the 360)

According to that quote, I clearly said Halo 2 Vista "ran" just fine on Windows 7. I clearly meant the game just running. When I was talking about the issues related to Windows 7 and Halo 2, I was referring to the most common issues of the game simply not running. Back in the old GFWL forums, that seemed to be the most common issue. I know I replied directly to your post about the lag and other issues, but I was talking about the more general issue of the game simply not running. I know the Xbox version runs at a much lower resolution than the PC version, however, if you just look at the texture details, the Xbox version is slightly more detailed at close distances than the PC version on Low settings. I think it's detailed enough for it to be pretty close to Medium settings on the PC.
