Think about it:
- For most of our country's history it was nothing more than a small town out in the unsettled boondocks of the West Coast
- It wasn't a major port until relatively recently, when China and Japan began trading with us
- It has no other major natural resources
- It's in the middle of a desert
And yet it has grown to be the second-largest city in the US, with over 17 million people. What caused such phenomenal growth in so short of a time? Thoughts?

los angeles isnt really in the desert. its more towards the central valley and it grew more from its agriculture. as time has gone on, the city became more developed and got rid of its agriculture.
