Sony files patent to prevent used game sales

Link We've heard this as rumor before. Could there be some truth to it? And how will this affect you in he next generation of consoles?

 • If the profile ID is paired with the disc ID, that pairing would need to be stored somewhere. Obviously the best place to do that is on the disk, but if there's no network connection that pairing record can't be stored anywhere where it can be accessed by another console (which is also a problem since the latter would need a network connection too). So the only way of making this work is to change the media (Bluray, DVD, or whatever else they're using) from readable to writeable to store the pairing record on the disc itself. This way the console will be able to read the record from the disc after it has been written-to by another/the same console. That's probably going to lead to a jump in manufacturing (and subsequently purchase) costs, since writeable discs are a little bit more expensive than readable-only (IIRC) and the console disc drive will need to support write capabilities as well.
