tiny solution to huge problem

Our friend Harlow has enlightened a problem with our community. Rule violators who flies under the radar. This is not an unsolvable problem if we work together. But how can we bring everyone together? And for what cause should we unite?
Posted by: Duardo I hate jerks as much as the next guy and deal with them when I see them. I imagine the other ninjas do this as well. We rely on the report button when we're not here. The report button is only ever used when a very obvious rule is being broken (adult links, all caps, religion/politics) otherwise we hardly see anything in there.
Well Duardo, forum moderators and members of BNet, here's the solution: The forum moderators cannot possibly go through all threads posted on BNet and check for rule breakers. The purpose of this group is to bring the vilotors to BNet justice, at the mercy of the forum moderators. We do this by posting a new thread in this group containing a hyperlink to the thread and the name of the user including the the reason why it should be reported. Rules: - If you havn't read the BNet forum rules, do it. - Don't report a post that is not breaking the rules. - If you are uncertain whether or not to report a post, don't do it. Feel free to lock a thread if you see that it has served it's purpose. P.S (I know it's against the rules to advertize private groups in the mains but it's appropriate due to the circumstances.) • "(I know it's against the rules to advertize private groups in the mains but it's appropriate due to the circumstances.)" At the same time you promote anti rule breaking.

 •
Posted by: ash55 I don't speak for anyone other than myself, but I would rather you didn't. AFAIK, the point of a Report button is that it sees whether single users separately come to the same conclusion. Not whether a collective has decided to throw their weight behind a single person's find. If the report button isn't working, request that the webteam come up with a solution, don't try to cheat the system (even if you think it's for a good cause). My 2p Reporting shouldn't be your focus. You should spend that time simply browsing the forums, avoiding the bad threads, trying to post positive things. When you see something you don't think belongs, then sure, take 2 seconds to report it and move on. You can't crush all the trolls and flamers, your best of solving the problem is to try to outnumber them. To set a good example, and hope others follow it. After all, when you crush 1 troll, more will take their place. The report button is just one part of a two-pronged attack.
I agree. The report function (as it exists) is democratic and an example of vox populi (the voice of the people) in action. Any attempt to leverage or exploit it (and using a group to intentionally trigger the report threshold IS an exploit) is ill-advised. I can understand the intent, but the application of this undermines the point of the report system in the first place. People have to see the "offending post" themselves and decide to report it or not. Having people crowd-source the process would make it less effective, not more.

 • Isn't that singling people out, or publicly broadcasting "offensive" material? You are deluded. [Edited on 01.02.2013 9:31 AM PST]

 • I disagree on the "if you're not sure if you should report it, don't." A single, misplaced report won't affect anything, and it is still up to the webteam to carry out any acts of justice. I would rather have the community be a bit too antsy with the button than shy away from it.

 • This has been attempted before. It worked for a while, but it didn't last. Its requires a relatively large amount of consistent attention, which, for most people is a lot to ask. edit; WHY THE -blam!- DIDN'T YOU CALL IT VIGILANTES OR WATCHMEN OR SOMETHING COOL AND VIGILANTE SUPERHERO THING RELATED?!!?!! HOW DO YOU EXPECT PEOPLE TO CARE WITH A BORING NAME LIKE THAT?! [Edited on 01.02.2013 8:15 AM PST]

 •
Posted by: Kickimanjaro Just use the report button.
That is exactly what this thread is about and I'm glad you're taking the liberty of informing everyone. Thank you. Or am I missunderstanding? perhaps you're telling me to use the report button. If that is the case then I would say your trust in the report button is missplaced. If every reported post showed in the report queue then it would quickly get filled with unnecessary things. Therefor it takes more than one report for it to show. But I suppose you're already aware of this, beeing mythic member and all. So, thanks again.

 •
Posted by: DarkBen64 Is the problem really that bad? No. You didn't address my question.
Your first question was: "What's the point? Be more specific. From my perspective you're either wondering about the purpose of the group, or you simply don't see a problem with rule violators going unnoticed. Or maybe perhaps it's one of those retorical questions. Second question: "Is the problem that bad?" Yes, in my opinion it is.

 • Should of posted this in the classifieds; although I do think its border lining a good idea, just a majority of the members that join wil abuse or won't hold a maturity level ie. I can see people reporting people who aren't even breaking the rules. [Edited on 01.02.2013 6:14 AM PST]
