Anybody ever fail a 5 credit college class?

Well my procrastination and laziness has caught up to me and it looks like I'm going to get a D. For Engineering, I have to get a C in this useless class for me to get the diploma. So what I'm wondering is. How bad does it look if I retake the class? Am I going to get screwed? Will I still be able to graduate in 4 years? I can handle taking extra classes if it means graduating in 4 years. I just need the reassurance from other college folks. My girlfriend is telling me not to sweat it.

 •
Posted by: VehementWolf54 Even with your laziness, how did you get a D?
Laziness is the biggest enemy of a student. Laziness is what makes you not do your homework, not study, not go to class. That's what messed me up. Sometimes I just said F it. And I did in fact F this class.

 •
Posted by: TransmutationXx I think I may fail my Chemistry class this semester. Have a final next week and none of it makes sense. Even after studying and staying after with my proffessor. But don't worry OP, many people I know habe failed and say they're all good. Oh and a quick question to the Flood. Is it required you graduate or get all your classes within 4 years? Because I'm a little behind in classes and hours, and next semester is my 4th semester at my community college. (2 years) And I still need to take classes like pre-calc, calculus I and II and physics. I had to take some remedial classes and it took up space in which I could have used for classes that would count. I usually don't take more than 14 hours because I can't handle the load of so many classes at once. :/ I know I'm not the smartest person in the world but I'm trying. I hope this made sense and someone could answer.
Nah, you can take extra years man. I know people who needed 5 years to graduate, and some who just needed an extra semester. The only reason I'm worrying is because I want to graduate in 4 years. My parents would not take failure lightly lets just say that. Both my parents are working hard as hell for me to be able to go to college and if I end up taking 5 years to graduate they would kill me.

Unless you've failed a lot more than just those 5 credits!
Well in America, 5 credit classes are the big classes. Like Math, Science, etc. 3 credit classes are the "less relevant" classes such as English, Native American studies.
We have to get 80 Credits in total to pass the year, 14 in a certain class if you want to pass that class.

 •
Posted by: KB0n3s Ya the classes I know I'm failing are chemistry and history of architecture. Chemistry will be the death of me. No matter how hard I try in that class, I just can't seem to understand it. Maybe it's because I never took it in highschool. But ya, I don't know what happened that one night when you joined my party. You just sort of left. We'll try playing again later some other time.
I know I'm being lazy when I took chemistry in high school and still failed this one. I even got an A in the first test which was meant to see if this class was right now me. I was doing well at first but then I just sort of stopped trying and it killed my grade. Yeah sorry about that, I just don't really like huge parties to be honest. I usually play by myself and when I'm playing with somebody else, it's my gf.

 • Online speech? I'd imagine that you actually meet up to give the speeches, and everything else (tests, etc.) would be online. Part of the point of the class is to help you deal with and get over the nerves. It's too easy to give a speech when you're not standing in front of a whole class of people! •
Posted by: HD PVR Essentially. It's basically about the basics of researching, writing, and giving a speech. You'll typically have to give an introductory speech (about yourself), an informative speech about a topic, and a how-to speech. I also had to do a tribute/eulogy speech, but the format of the class will obviously vary by school/course. My wife, as a business major, had to take a business-oriented speech course instead and their assignments were related to the business world (e.g. make up a product and give a presentation about it). It can be a lot of fun once you get over the nervousness that comes with speaking in front of a group.
Yeah I used to be very nervous speaking in front of people, but since I moved to a different state I stopped caring what other people think of me and it helped me a lot with presentations and everything for some reason. How do you figure an online class would work, because I'm enrolling in an online speech class. Probably like video speeches or something? Maybe meeting every couple months in person to give your speech?

I was very afraid that this was the end of the road for me. I've been a nerd my whole life and this is embarrasing to me. I'm the first person in my family to go to college and they all expect me to do great. So failing at this would be a disgrace. But I swear on Great Odin's beard that I will pass this class with an A second time around.

 •
Posted by: DarkSunnyboy1 I've only ever managed to fail one course throughout all my school years. And it was lolwoodworking.
Yeah I have no idea what was wrong with me this semester. I have been an honor roll student all of my grade school years and college comes around, I move to my own place and I magically become the laziest kid around. I've snapped out of it now so I'm pretty sure I'll get good grades the rest of my college career, and I just needed reassurance from the Flood that all is not lost. I feel like that Asian kid that got a B on his test because he's so used to getting A's. Sorry for possible racism.

 • When I had my life ruined by the cluster-blam!- of politics that is modern education, I ended up with a C- on 12 credits (student teaching). Brought a 3.81 down to a 3.6. In most places, you can ask for an incomplete as long as it is before the last day of class, which I suspect may be too late for you. If that is the case, you basically retake the class and I believe they overwrite the grade and slap a little asterisk next to it. That's all. [Edited on 12.06.2012 4:58 PM PST]
