I can stand shows like Ancient Aliens and Pawn Stars. You occasionally learn something, and their's just enough amount of crazy to make it somewhat interesting. But I think I just found where I draw the line. I'm watching a show on old wars. Seems like standard fare for the History Channel. They are discussing propaganda, when they suddenly slew off in a random direction. They decide to talk about what modern propaganda should be like.
They come up with: Bella (from Twilight) riding a horse while launching beer from a t-shirt gun at Justin Biebers face as it rains French Fries.
I'm not joking Flood. Seriousy, I WISH this was a joke thread. What the HELL happened to the History Channel.
Ps. Don't even get me started about the constant dick jokes about Ben Franklin.

It's history.
-
Just like MTV.
-
Ah yes judging an entire channel based on one show/documentary/ect. great idea OP.

I know man, I used to watch the thing all the time six or seven years ago... But now it sucks. I am also intruiged about these Ben Franklin dick jokes.

History is written by the victors

KPBS (NOVA) seem to be one of the few unaffected educational programs that are still ok.
-
It's a lot like that on the military channel. Oh wait, I mean the World War 2 channel.
-
I prefer the Science Channel, but I wish they'd stop playing so much How It's Made. Do I really need to know how they make popsicles? I used to do it all the time as a young child.

History isn't stimulating enough. I need it commercialized and relatable to modern pop culture.
Posted by: What Is This1 Ah yes judging an entire channel based on one show/documentary/ect. great idea OP.
The OP clearly listed more than a single show. OT: This reality TV -blam!- is why I no longer have cable.

They started showing too much religious stuff for me. I'm not saying that religion doesn't have important history, it's rather that they seemed to state controversial things as fact, and that bothered me. Even some of the stuff about aliens bothers me... not because I don't believe in the possibility of life elsewhere, but because of how it is presented.

Kill your Television.
Posted by: Defogner History is written by the victors
That's actually false. Victors and losers have written historical things. [Edited on 12.04.2012 1:19 AM PST]

Honestly History Channel is doing as any other channel would do if it was losing users: do what people want to see. If people stopped watching Pawn Stars et al, and wanted more history-laced programs, than it's probable that the History Channel would change its programming.

Does it have Hanna Montana?

I watched History when it still had MonsterQuest, Life After People, and all of those end of the world shows. When those stopped, I stopped.
-
Now I'm not saying it was Aliens...
Posted by: dazarobbo Just like MTV.
Spot on right there. When I was a kid, something like 13 years ago MTV was about music and it was great to just switch to that channel and be able to listen to the current hits all day long.
-
History Channel is still great and I learn a lot of cool new things from Pawn Stars. The men who built America and Mankind are awesome.

The channel called "Yesterday" is a great one for history these days.
