Let's face it the game possesses no longevity at all.
Halo 3 had customs and an excellent matchmaking system that kept it going.
Halo Reach had -blam!- customs and an even -blam!-er matchmaking system
Halo 4 has no customs and an even -blam!-er matchmaking system than Halo Reach.
R.I.P Halo

We've gotten to the point now where cornerstone franchises like Halo and CoD have communities that are so incredibly divided that no one will ever be completely satisfied again with a new game.
Or they just say they're playing the rival game to spark a reaction.

Although I enjoy the game I think you're probably right, Halo will never be on top ever again.
Posted by: David iZ Mental
Posted by: Dback139 I think if you add in the ranking system, Slayer Pro + radar becoming default Slayer, nerf DMR and remove Mantis from MM, would be enough to make people happy with Halo 4.
And release an update for Custom Games so we can have infection and fat kid back. I'm seriously considering selling this -blam!-. When you buy a new game you expect it to be better than the previous games.
Well, I honestly believe that 343 is using the first month as a "beta" period. Snipers playlist is coming Monday, I believe, and ranking system should be here around the New Year (provided the Mayans weren't right) along with a TU and map pack. I definitely feel that Ranked Slayer Pro will be the measuring stick for skill when it rolls out. Definitely have to remove "join in progress" for Ranked games though. I have faith that 343 will get it right, I just don't have faith in the community's patience. Patience is, unfortunately, a seemingly lost virtue on today's gamers.

Just some playlist updates will do

A year? Watch the population drop off in 3 months.

True, the whole xp unlock system is just an artificial way of extending the life of a game past the point of tedium which would indicate that someone at 343i or Microsoft doubted the games ability to live on its gameplay and features alone. Once people reach max rank they will either leave for greener grass as they realize they have been fooled, or stay seeing themselves too invested in the game to give it up now. Halo 3 could live on its gameplay because it allowed you to see as you progressed and got better when it allowed for an even battlefield where your ability and that of your team was what won you the game. Halo 3 also lived in the hundreds of inspired custom games and maps, something of which Halo 4 threw away when it removed almost every last one of the playlists which the custom games scene has thrived upon. tl;dr Where as earlier haloes lived of their gameplay halo 4 has to resort to an xp system and constant gratification to the player to survive, and once the xp grind is over people will realize that the core of the game is rotten.

Saving this thread to prove the OP wrong. A year is a long time to wait though...

That's what game developers want nowadays. Buy game, play if for a few months, get bored, buy the annually released sequel, rinse and repeat.
