"Destiny... or Fate?"

Let me start this off by saying, Halo was and still is an amazing game series. Halo includes almost everything an FPS needs to be legendary. Despite that, it became more, somewhat of a god or deity. Making people do all sorts of wild things just because they love the game that much. Regardless of what it is or will become, Halo is the standard for Sci-Fi FPS's and with that we should expect the same quality if not better than that of Halo:Reach. With all of that out of the way, let me get to my main topic. Bungie's new game: Destiny, Tiger, whatever, will be far better than anything we have ever seen. Not just because I'm a huge fan but because of their history as a developer. Currently, I am playing through the Marathon Trilogy. Although I haven't progressed very far through the first game, I'm having a ton of fun and the simplicity is very eloquently accompanied by multiple-choice scenarios much like Halo has come to be. Simply, Marathon was a huge influence on Halo:CE and by that logic Halo's successor should be spectacular if not, legen- wait for it.... -dary! =) Gotta love Barney... Back on topic, I believe Bungie will yet again amaze us all and revolutionize console gaming, and maybe even PC gaming! Now, to the good stuff... What will Destiny be like? MMO? FPS? RTS? We may not know as of right now, but what we can do is be good detectives and monitor Bungie's movements like an assassin in the shadows. My opinion? Destiny will be a perfect combination of RPG & FPS elements that has an even more immense aspect of gaming that few gamers are skilled in or even are familiar with.... World Design. Now, it is a bit extreme but let's look at the evidence. They have Trademarked a program called Grognok which looks to me like a level designer. If this is true, then I believe they are planning on releasing it to the public as a PC app or incorporating it into Destiny. Either way, I know for a fact that they are creating their own engine which should allow them to do almost anything. I think Bungie was really impressed by the fans creations in Forge. So impressed, in fact, that they want the fans to create their own worlds and allow players to visit each others' worlds much like Little Big Planet but with a faster pace. My speculations aside, I highly doubt they are going to make another World of Warcraft. I don't think they are that desperate that they have to make a game that requires a monthly payment to play. Halo: Reach made 200Mil on launch day. With that, Bungie isn't a greedy company because it simply doesn't need to be and once their 10 year contract is up with Activison they should have the efficient provisions to take over the world finally... To conclude...(Finally, Right?) I believe whatever they create will be the biggest thing we have seen since... Well, forever! The only thing I ask from them right now is: Keep it as secret as possible... The buildup is the most important piece for a video game. If you don't make the fans want it enough you'll end up with a series called Call of Duty. I'd just prefer more clues rather than facts. A simple reply would suffice ;). Although, silence is still good enough for me. For the good of us all Bungie, do what you love, and love what you do. And WE shall follow... See you starside. -ApocalypseKJ [Edited on 11.05.2012 9:00 PM PST]

 • Those where some good points, I like the idea of forge but on a much larger scale wherein you may even be able to manipulate the terrain, I agree that whatever destiny is it will be massive and a great game (at least hopefully :)

 • While i still can't imagine what Destiny could be, i'm just hoping Bungie will make something definitely unique and ahead of it's time like Shenmue, Final Fantasy VII or even Mario 64, something with a new gameplay, something refreshing wich let it's fingerprint in this industry... Actually OP i'm tired of those generic Sci-fi/modern war shooter that dont really bring innovations (except Dust 514) those game you almost finish in 4h campaign and go full Multiplayer, and the question is : how can you make something different and original with it's own new gameplay mechanics with a great story who connect you with several characters ? is it with a Rpg ? MMO ? both ? or even a new hybrid genre ? This may be the question Bungie ask themselves back in the day when they first pitched Destiny/Tiger. But, immediately my brain can still not give any answer. For now, i'm just afraid of being disapointed by Bungie the same way i was for Reach... and the darkness is so long, it doesn't help much. And seeing what 343i made with H4 specifically in term of mise en scene it's a good example that i would like to share. I always see the lack of effort of Bungie in this category during their process, while they're good in creating huge universe and provide unique atmosphere, they always seems to be very clumsy in their cinematics moments, as if they were missing the point on dramatic situation (some cinematics in Halo Saga were laughable) the one that come now to my mind was Johnson's death. This scene was supposed to be very painfull for John, but at the very end it was awfull for me. It was so casual... yep! that's the word "casual" for him and of course for me. I see this scene as a waste of great dramatic situation, and i still remembered this exact moment when i said something like "seriously?! well... Johnesy is dead like a moron... Well, well, well, so ima finish the fight!" i just didn't feel anything when he die, nothing, i was disconnect by the game! If something like that happen, it's not normal for the player and of course from the develloper itself. Reach try to do better, but i consider it as an other failed attempt for providing emotions, this time with a bunch of moron dying in stupid situation except yourself as Noble 6. So all of those words for said, i really do hope that Destiny will have a better investment of Bungie in term of cinematics quality, best animation (Mocap, cause they add it lately for Reach, wich is a shame for a studio like them) facial expression, and of course mise en scène, sensibility and editing (for music they already have talented people). "So Bungie do justice to your story with a better cinematographic narration !" [Edited on 11.07.2012 2:05 AM PST]

 • I hadnt considered those points either although now that you've brought them up looking back Johnsons death wasnt very dramatic. I enjoyed halo 4's campaing (albeit brief) probably more than halo 3 or reach's because of its cutscenes. They look terrific, the audios crisp and clear, the voice actings great and in some (not all though) you can genuinly feel the gravity of whats happening. I hope Bugnie do like you said "do justice to their story with a better cinematographic narration".

 •
Posted by: ApocalypseKJBLAK
I appreciate your visions and hopes for Destiny, I'd definitely be interested in playing a game similar to the one you described, but there are a couple of aspects that I think one should consider. -The story. I won't sum them up right now, cause that would take a lot of work, tracking them down, but many of their comments throughout the ViDocs have pointed towards Destiny being the next step in storytelling. Halo is often mentioned as a revolutionising game when it come to gameplay (among other thing), but it is far to often forgoten how much it did for machinima. I think Destiny somehow might allow us to play in a way that organically turns gameplay into a light machinima, which after a while takes over the actual story. -Seamlessness. You mentioned Forge. As much as I think the concept of Forge somehow will manifest itself in the game, I do not think that it will be in a godlike manner, where anyone is capable of literally moving mountains. It will be far more controlled and chewy. Many players--me included--find that games become boring rather quick if they don't make one struggle for a result. Minecraft is a good example of that. -Something unexpected. Halo 3 added Theatre mode and Forge, ODST added Firefight, and Reach refined and expanded them both. I'm sure Destiny will offer something new. Back during the Halo 3 podcasts, a strange but oddly compelling gametype was mentioned now and than. I do not recall what its name was, but in short, it involved all the gametypes from Halo 3, in the same level, at the same time. I hope that's the foundation of Destiny; Halo 3 played on the scale of an open-world game.

Bungie, pay no attention to CanineThewolvie's fifth, sixth, seventh, and eight paragraph, for he knows not of what he is writing. Sorry, dude, I mean no offence, but no, just no. Bungie's cinematics are world-class. [Edited on 11.10.2012 4:38 PM PST]
