The Full Halo Story Questions...

Hello everyone, You might think "What the -blam!-!?" when you see what I am about to ask here, but I'm still going to do it! ;D So a long story short, I would like to know the full Halo story. BAM! Don't get me wrong here, I already know some of it and I don't need to know the full detailed version but please just the most important parts, so I'll tell you what I know already, if you don't want to read this and just answer my questions scroll down! : So the Forerunners see the flood, they take DNA from every living creature and blow all planets up with the Halo rings. A long time later everything goes back to normal and somehow the flood survived? Then there is an army called UNSC and they decide to make a spartan army. For some reason this project gets cancelled 2 or 3 times but at last they keep making spartans. They train them while they are still kids on the planet reach. Then Reach gets attacked by the covenant because the prophets said that the humans talk -blam!- about the fore runners or something? For some reason there are only 7 spartans left noble 1 to 6 and master chief. (what happened in the mean time?) Reach falls and then halo combat evolved happens. In the end they manage to destroy the flood cause for some reason the whole flood is on this one planet and they blow it up with the halo ring. The prophets have been killed and the Covenant is not in war with the humans anymore (except for one small group that still believes in the prophets words and want to finish the task). So yeah... I know theres alot missing but like i said, i dont need the full detailed version. ----------------------------------------- So my questions are: 1. How did the flood survive the Forerunners' action with the Halo rings? 2. Why did the spartan creation got cancelled so many times? 3. Why didn't they make like a billion spartan soldiers? (or at least 100 while halo 1,2 and 3 were happening?) 4. Why did the covenant started the war with the humans again? 5. Why was the whole flood on that planet in the final mission of halo 3? Sorry for the weird topic but thanks for answering - Jeroen

 •
Posted by: J To The Eroen 1. How did the flood survive the Forerunners' action with the Halo rings?
Because the Forerunners kept them in containment on Halo's and other facilities for research.
Posted by: J To The Eroen 3. Why didn't they make like a billion spartan soldiers? (or at least 100 while halo 1,2 and 3 were happening?)
Because the Spartan program costs SO much money. Also they trained the Spartan fours during this time.
Posted by: J To The Eroen 5. Why was the whole flood on that planet in the final mission of halo 3?
Because the Gravemind crashed the flood infested Covenant Holy City, High Charity, into the Ark (this planet you refer to). • Thanks for answering! Yeah sorry about the planet thingy... The ark is one of the halo rings right? When will we see the spartan fours tough? I'm pretty curious... And another question, what happened with the flood? like, how did the flood escape? Also, why did the forerunners make the halo's a livable place? Why is there grass and sky and what so ever? Couldn't they have just make it like one big round machine? Thanks! - Jeroen

 •
Thanks for answering! Yeah sorry about the planet thingy... The ark is one of the halo rings right?
It makes the Halo rings. There's also a second and even bigger Ark.
When will we see the spartan fours though? I'm pretty curious...
Halo 4
And another question, what happened with the flood? like, how did the flood escape?
The Covenant broke through the quarantines and containment on the first Halo.
Also, why did the forerunners make the halo's a livable place?
Because one of the head forerunners required that Halos be used as giant lifeboats carrying as much life as possible after the rings fire and eliminate all other life in the galaxy.
Why is there grass and sky and what so ever?
The Forerunners were technological gods and they had a thing for aesthetic appeal.
Couldn't they have just make it like one big round machine?
They wanted to be able to treat localized infections in the galaxy. In addition to the Halos, they also built Shield Worlds which are large, round, inside-out planets that protect the inhabitants from the Flood and the effects of the Halo array's firing. Requiem, the setting of Halo 4, is one these Shield Worlds. There is also one in Halo Wars. [Edited on 10.04.2012 10:21 AM PDT]

 • If you want to read about Halo canon then read the Halo wiki.
Posted by: J To The Eroen So the Forerunners see the flood, they take DNA from every living creature and blow all planets up with the Halo rings. A long time later everything goes back to normal and somehow the flood survived?
The Forerunners did not blow up all of the planets, they simply destroyed all living things in the galaxy. The Forerunners had Flood spores preserved on the Halo rings for studying.
Then there is an army called UNSC and they decide to make a spartan army. For some reason this project gets cancelled 2 or 3 times but at last they keep making spartans. They train them while they are still kids on the planet reach.
The UNSC is not an army, it is a central government. A section called ONI created the Spartan I project because of the current rebellion. Unfortunately the Spartan I project failed and was disbanded. However the Spartan II project was a success. The Spartan III project was put into effect near the end of the war in an effort to defeat the Covenant by sheer numbers. The Spartan IV project was created after the events of Halo 3, not much is known yet.
Then Reach gets attacked by the covenant because the prophets said that the humans talk -blam!- about the fore runners or something?
Reach gets attacked very late in the war. The war started in 2525, and ended in 2552. Reach was attacked in the year 2552. Here is a direct quote from the wiki on why the war was started.
Unknown to all but the highest echelons of leadership, the campaign to exterminate Humanity was an attempt by the Prophets to maintain political and religious power. In truth, the Prophets had discovered Forerunner objects that the Luminary revealed on Harvest were actually Humans (which the Prophets interpreted as meaning that the Humans were descendants of the Forerunner, or possibly surviving Forerunner). Initially, the Covenant interpreted the glyph from the luminary as "Reclamation". The Forerunner AI 05-032 Mendicant Bias revealed that the interpretation was incorrect: the glyph meant "Reclaimer". The Prophets Regret and Truth realized that if the Humans were Forerunners, then it was possible to be left behind when the prophesied Great Journey occurred. This stood in direct contradiction to the Covenant religion. The Hierarchs, recognizing that this truth would destroy the Covenant, declared war on Humanity, hoping the truth would perish with their newly-declared foe.
It was a simple act to keep Truth as the leader and the Covenant intact.
For some reason there are only 7 spartans left noble 1 to 6 and master chief. (what happened in the mean time?) Reach falls and then halo combat evolved happens.
There are many Spartans left during the course of the Halo trilogy. They are not mentioned in game though. Noble team was not the only group of Spartans at the time, Reach housed many Spartans, the world Onyx was creating Spartan IIIs at the time of Halo 3.
In the end they manage to destroy the flood cause for some reason the whole flood is on this one planet and they blow it up with the halo ring.
At the end of Halo 3 you destroy the local Flood infestation. The Flood originally came from outside the galaxy and is still in parts of the galaxy at the end of Halo 3. The planet you are referring to is Installation 00, the Ark. It is not a planet.
The prophets have been killed and the Covenant is not in war with the humans anymore (except for one small group that still believes in the prophets words and want to finish the task).
The 3 High Prophets are killed which throws the Covenant out of balance. The Covenant split up into multiple factions. Some at peace with humanity, and some who still believe in the Great Journey.
1. How did the flood survive the Forerunners' action with the Halo rings?
The Forerunners kept samples of the Flood on the Halo installations for studying.
2. Why did the spartan creation got cancelled so many times?
Only the Spartan I project was canceled, because ONI didn't have the proper research and technology.
3. Why didn't they make like a billion spartan soldiers? (or at least 100 while halo 1,2 and 3 were happening?)
The idea of the Spartan program was to create a super soldier, the perfect soldier. The candidates of the Spartan II project were chosen because of their near-perfect genes. This was only 300 candidates, and only about 70 survived augmentation. The Spartan III and IV project would recruit adults and children. Making Spartans is also very expensive and time consuming. It takes a very long time to train Spartans.
4. Why did the covenant started the war with the humans again?

Unknown to all but the highest echelons of leadership, the campaign to exterminate Humanity was an attempt by the Prophets to maintain political and religious power. Why was the whole flood on that planet in the final mission of halo 3?
The Flood arrived on the Ark in a ship called High Charity. High Charity is a Covenant ship that contains the Covenant holy city. The Flood managed to infect the ship and take it over. [Edited on 10.04.2012 10:34 AM PDT]

Sorry for the weird topic but thanks for answering - Jeroen
1. They hibernated. Just like bugs. You put them in the freezer, give them some time to thaw, they'll still be alive. 2. They (Spartan IIIs) all died on Reach, just like Skirmishers. 3. Because Spartans never die. Besides, John was the last Spartan. 4. Because of a nervous Grunt on Harvest. 5. Some say they wanted the Index to stop the activation of Installation 04B but I think it's so that the Gravemind could trick Guilty Spark into turning against the Master Chief (hence why the Auto-Turrets will turn on you after the Gravemind moment). Also, Gravemind is Master Chief's father. :P [Edited on 10.04.2012 12:26 PM PDT]

 •
Posted by: adaben
Posted by: J To The Eroen For some reason there are only 7 spartans left noble 1 to 6 and master chief.
there are hundreds of Spartans left, most of gamma company, 2 of beta and around 20 SPARTAN II s, most of which are disabled.
There are a bunch of SIII's in the Shield World of Onyx as well, along with a handful of SII's. And with Halo 4, we have the Spartan IV side of the program. As to why there are the different successive programs; with each iteration of the Spartan program, they refined the technology and made it cheaper while increasing the survival rate of the Augmentation process. As far as ability, all Spartans are pretty much identical. there are certain natural traits that made some faster than others, some better shots, some were luckier than others, etc. But with the Spartan II program, they had to have children between 6-9 years old. train them until they are around 17/18 years old, then put them through Augmentation. By the time the Spartan IV's started Augmentation and training aboard the Infinity, the process had become so cheap and so perfected that they're accepting grown men and women out of the regular UNSC Special Forces units. Also, the survival rate jumped to almost 100% by the SIV time period. I forget the number mentioned exactly, but something like 1000+ men and women are on board the Infinity who've been augmented as Spartan IV's.

 • You will find the best answer in the games and in the books.
Posted by: J To The Eroen So the Forerunners see the flood, they take DNA from every living creature and blow all planets up with the Halo rings. A long time later everything goes back to normal and somehow the flood survived?
Nothing is "normal" again. It is simply a new beginning.
Posted by: J To The Eroen Then there is an army called UNSC and they decide to make a spartan army.
The idea was to create something along those lines. However the amount of Spartans produced was hardly enough to be called an army. The Spartan IIIs were massed produced but they were sent on suicidal missions.
Posted by: J To The Eroen For some reason this project gets cancelled 2 or 3 times but at last they keep making spartans. They train them while they are still kids on the planet reach.
The Spartan I program, or Project ORION was cancelled because it wasn't really effective. Sargent Johnson is a Spartan I. The Spartan II program went ahead, and wasn't really cancelled per say. Class II was never fully formed because all the money went towards MJOLNIR armour maintenance and the genetic requirements for Spartan IIs was very strict. The Spartan III program is the successor. It creates more Spartans than ever before but they are sent on tactical suicidal mission to buy Humanity time against the Covenant.
Posted by: J To The Eroen Then Reach gets attacked by the covenant because the prophets said that the humans talk -blam!- about the fore runners or something?
The humans never talked -blam!- about Forerunners. They didn't even know what the Forerunners WERE.
Posted by: J To The Eroen For some reason there are only 7 spartans left noble 1 to 6 and master chief. (what happened in the mean time?)
There are not seven Spartans left. Master Chief survived and so did some other Spartan IIs. Most of Noble Team died, Jun is the uncertainty. Some Spartan IIIs from Onyx survived as well.
Posted by: J To The Eroen Reach falls and then halo combat evolved happens.
Correct.
Posted by: J To The Eroen In the end they manage to destroy the flood cause for some reason the whole flood is on this one planet and they blow it up with the halo ring.
Basically. They were on Installation 04B. The Ark had created a new Halo to replace the one Master Chief blew up. Chief and Cortana travelled to the Ark and fired the single Halo ring. It killed all the Flood in the area (the ring, NOT a planet), but the Gravemind isn't truly dead.
Posted by: J To The Eroen The prophets have been killed and the Covenant is not in war with the humans anymore (except for one small group that still believes in the prophets words and want to finish the task).
Correct. This group is called the Storm, which will appear in Halo 4.
Posted by: J To The Eroen So yeah... I know theres alot missing but like i said, i dont need the full detailed version.
Not to sound like a dick, but a lot was incorrect about the original post. To answer your formal questions...
Posted by: J To The Eroen 1. How did the flood survive the Forerunners' action with the Halo rings?
Some were kept on the rings themselves so the blast didn't affect them.
Posted by: J To The Eroen 2. Why did the spartan creation got cancelled so many times?
Lack of funding/time, but it was never truly cancelled.
Posted by: J To The Eroen 3. Why didn't they make like a billion spartan soldiers? (or at least 100 while halo 1,2 and 3 were happening?)
Lack of resources (money, time, etc). Besides it would be near impossible to train a billion. You can't just train anybody, you had to take people with certain genetics. These were the BEST humans on a genetic level. Spartan IVs are a whole different story though.
Posted by: J To The Eroen 4. Why did the covenant started the war with the humans again?
It's not the Covenant, it's the Storm. They are a splinter group, but not every member of the former Covenant species wants to war again. The Arbiter doesn't want to start a war for example.
Posted by: J To The Eroen 5. Why was the whole flood on that planet in the final mission of halo 3?
Because the Gravemind wanted to prevent the firing of the rings from the Ark. I'm not even sure if every single Flood form was there. I think there are still some Flood forms on Installation 05 (Delta Halo from Halo 2).
