Would you rather be banned for breaking rules or publicly insulted?
Assuming you had to choose one of the two, would you rather that a forum moderator notify you that you have violated the forum rules by banning you or would you rather be publicly insulted/ridiculed via a post in the thread?

If it's something that is borderline (such as a quote pyramid or when a debate is starting to heat up), I imagine a mod could make use of that opportunity to warn those involved and the rest of the posters not to carry on that way. However, there are clear cases where the user doesn't need to be made an example out of and where dealing with the problem on the back-end would be a more efficient route to go. This is just what I've seen happen in the last 3 years and I agree with these methods. But I don't think either should replace the other. [Edited on 09.11.2012 11:19 PM PDT]
