Halo 3: ODST ~ The Untold Story (Sangheili DLC)
NOTE: I'd like to credit both SEAL Sniper 9 and Mark V guy for putting this idea in my head.
In ODST, my favourite game of the series, there is an abundance of Sangheili corpses scattered around New Mombasa. This itself tells us that there's an untold story, as the Changing of the Guard event hasn't happened yet but the Brutes have massacred Regret's Elites still on Earth. I think that this would be a very good opportunity for a DLC side story (and yes, I'm under no delusions, I know this WON'T happen).

So basically you're the Rookie walking around the hub world of New Mombasa, in the main storyline you find clues about your squadmates which provide flashbacks about their story. What if they did the same thing but instead of flashing back to your fellow ODSTs, you flash back to a squad of Elites and lead up to their execution by the Brutes when they arrive? This would encompass 5 missions:
MISSION 1 - Tallus 'Alrikee, 20 minutes before drop You are the head of the remaining Sangheili forces pulling back to Regret's landing zone (the landing pad you see in Uplift Reserve), however you fail to make it in time as Regret bugs out and heads to Installation 05. MISSION 2 - Tallus 'Alrikee, 10 minutes after drop You're awakened by what's left of your squad, 4 other Elites. They inform you that Regret has abandoned them and you're now stuck on this hostile world where EVERYONE is against you. You establish radio contact with another group of Elites and your objective is to regroup with them, forcing you into an agressive engagement of urban warfare with surviving Marines/ODSTs. The mission ends with the discovery of the Elites at Tayari plaza under a wall where the word "BELIEVE" is graffitied, all of them slaughtered and the Orbital Elevator collapses (symbolising the 'downfall' of the Sangheili). MISSION 3 - Tallus 'Alrikee, 1 hour after drop You examine the corpses of the dead Elites and discover that they've got wounds from plasma weapons, the immediate assumption is that humans have been using their weapons but rounding a corner you come across another dying Elite who informs you that the Brutes have betrayed them and have gone off to storm the human ONI building but are also looking for something underground. The Elite stands no chance of recovery and asks to be euthenased. In this mission, your squad plans to track down these Brutes and kill them, restoring their leadership over the scattered Covenant forces. To do this, you push back to the Scarab that the Chief disabled in Metropolis [HALO 2] and drive it to the Alpha Site. The mission ends with their arrival at ONI Alpha Site and discovering that they're too late, the bridge has been destroyed and they witness the building's detonation as a Pelican flies off in the distance (obviously linking in with the end of the ONI Alpha Site mission). MISSION 4 - Tallus 'Alrikee, 2 hours after drop Determined to avenge your fallen brothers, you resort to making direct radio contact with the regrouping Brutes and feign ignorance in regard to the murder of the other Elites. The Brutes think they have the upper hand and you plan a meeting point at the top of one of the buildings, you fight your way through Kizingo Boulevard in the Scarab experiencing an all-out vehicular battle between humanity and the Covenant along the way and eventually reach the specified building. MISSION 5 - Tallus 'Alrikee, 3 hours after drop In this mission, you begin the ascent up 9 floors (referencing the story of Dante's Inferno which ODST's story structure is based off). Once you reach the top, a 'survival' style fight begins. Eventually, the Brutes arrive and out steps the Chieftain, he never expected your squad to make it this far and decides that it's best for him to personally intervene. He's flanked by over a dozen packmates - the perfect ambush. During the conflict (which occurs through a cutscene, akin to 'Monsters' from halo Wars) you are eventually overwhelmed and knocked down in the struggle, and witness your fellow Elites fall in front of you too. A Brute then walks up to you and kicks you in the face, and your vision goes blurry. The Brute laughs, and then asks the Chieftain whether or not you should be taken prisoner. The Chieftain then says that they have orders from the Prophets to annihilate the Elites and he wants Tallus's mandibles as a trophy. Upon hearing this, Tallus bursts into a frenzy (Amon Hen - Boromir style, baby!) and manages to cut several down, but is shot down by the overwhelming number of Brutes, but not before you injure the Chieftain. The Chieftain receives a transmission from a Phantom telling him that they've tracked and engaged a squad of ODSTs at one of the skyscrapers (Buck's squad) and requests assistance. He takes a Spiker from one of his packmates, aims it at you and fires. The screen goes black.
In the end, when roaming the streets of New Mombasa, each pile of Elite corpses has an Energy Sword with unlimited energy for you to use as a reward (similar to Halo 2 multiplayer). To anyone who bothered to read this far, well done. This isn't anything particularly deep or detailed, but with work I can see this working beautifully juxtaposed with the main story of ODST and, to an extent, Halo 2 (as I tried to show with things like the locations, the Scarab and the Chieftain being the same one Buck's squad kills at the end of NMPD HQ). Hope you enjoyed.

 • Glad to be of assistance, and I think this idea is great. A question though, would we be fighting against the rest of the covenant, or are the other races unaware at this state if the conflict between the elites and brutes?

 • This would explain the lack of the UNSC in the city. Great idea, but Sadly it falls on silence.

 • I have an alternate idea for the last part
You and a squad of about 10 other elites find a lone brute minor standing with his back to you. Th zealot, the leader of your group, orders you all to aim your weapons at him. The brute puts his hands in the air, and the zealot begins questioning him 'Foul beast, tell us, why are the brutes doing this? What is going on?' he demands 'I shall not answer to an elite. A jackal is more worthy of my knowledge' the brute replies with a sneer. 'I can make you talk, beast! Tallus! Help me restrain this brute!' You move toward the brute. At that moment, the brute let's out a lout howl. The elites are taken by surprise, and cover their hears. At this moment, a pack of about 10 brutes all emerge from surrounding locations, jumping off buildings, leaping from behind cars and one even emerges from a crater in the ground. The pack is composed if a captain major, a captain, two bodyguards, two majors and four minors. None of them are armed with weapons. The elites are too slow to respond, and they are soon all beaten down by berserking brutes. After all the elites, including Tallus, are on the ground, a brute war chieftain wakes casually around the corner. He has a fuel rod gun on his back, and a mauler on his thigh. 'Excellent work!' he says to the brutes. He turns to the elites. 'It seems that the all mighty and superior elites fell for a trap set by us "foul beasts"!' The zealot chokes, and spits out blood 'By the rings, brute. The prophets will have your heads!' The war chieftain laughs. 'The prophets? You mean the ones who ordered the riddance of the filth that is the Sangheili?' All the battered and bloodied elites look up as he says this 'What are you talking about?!' the zealot demands. 'I am talking about a new age of the Covenant' says the war chieftain. 'An age, were us brutes are treated with respect! Like warriors, not the slaves and servants of elites!' The war chieftain commands all the other brutes to tie up the eltites and line them up. The elites are dragged up to their feet, and and have their hands tied behind their backs. They are then lined up, with Tallus and the zealot at the far end. The war chieftain takes the mauler from his thigh and aims it at the first elite in the row. He laughs and pulls the trigger, and the first elite falls. 'Dont worry Tallus' whispers the zealot. 'We'll get out of this' The war chieftain moves along the row, executing the elites, with the brute crowd cheering him on. He then arrives at the zealot. Suddenly, the zealot, having broken his bondages, activates his blade and makes a lunge for the leader. His sword takes down his shield. The chieftain, angered, orders the brutes to restrain him. When two brutes have a hold of the zealots arms, the war chieftain begins to punch him in the face repeatedly. Eventually his face is a bloody pulp, and he is dropped to the ground. The war chieftain pulls out his mauler. 'Any last words from you?' The zealot struggles to speak as he chokes on his own blood. 'I am ashamed to go down at the hands of a brute' he spits out. 'Especially a cowardly one like you!' Without a second thought, the chieftain pulls the trigger of his mauler and kills the zealot. He then turns to Tallus. Tallus, having broken his bondages, also reaches for his blade. However, a brute sees him and takes his blade away. Tallus makes a lunge for the chieftain, and begins to punch him in the face. He manages to draw blood, but he is soon dragged off by a brute bodyguard, and punched hard in the face. His vision goes blurry and he falls to the ground, blood on his face. He is then kicked by the chieftain, and the picked up by the neck and severely beaten. While dying on the floor, the chieftain suddenly receives a transmission from a brute, telling him that a group of imps are holding a position at the human police building and have killed many covenant. The chieftain responds saying he will be there. He then aims the mauler at the screen and pulls the trigger. The screen goes black, and after death you can hear the chieftains malicious laughter fading away...
This is all from Tallus's point of view [Edited on 05.21.2012 2:53 PM PDT]

 • I'm glad that I could help put the idea in your head. I honestly find it to be a great idea that, like you said, would work so well with the current ODST story. Many people liked to switch between the Chief and the Arbiter during Halo 2. I'm sure it'd be a real treat for most players to have that sort of thing again. Not to mention those who did appreciate ODST are all craving for more story and missions. I think this would've been a great way to subdue some of that hunger, haha. Gosh, how I wish ODST could have been Bungie's last full project...If only, if only. Hopefully (this is a big hope) 343i doesn't completely forget about the ODSTs. Maybe we'll see another game sometime during the Reclaimer Trilogy. Doubtful, but it'd sure be a treat. [Edited on 05.21.2012 3:37 PM PDT]

 • The general idea is Epic. ODST was an amazing game, and I would like to see it continued. But I think you're outline is overdoing it with the Scarab. I would just leave the story to Bungie (hypothetically). But one thing I was really hoping to see in ODST was a re-visit through what we saw in Halo 2, but from a different angle or something.
