My God, It's Full of Stars - The Destiny Map - [EARTH LOCATION]

* Real World Overlay - Puerto Princesa * Google Earth Link
Posted by: Motarius1 Well hello Shirley.... With a bit of google foo and a lunch break it would appear the map you guys have been working on is a map of Puerto Princesa in the Philippines. See this map Looks pretty familiar right? Here's the full write up where I grabbed the image from.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puerto_Princesa

INTRODUCTION
It's been a long time since I've posted anything near this big. I'm a little tense and afraid of it due to its sheer immensity, but I'm gonna give it a good go. But first, a quick note about "Destiny". It's the name of their next game. Just to clear up any confusion some folk may have about the name of the thread. It hasn't been officially announced by Bungie as of yet, but multiple sources on the Internets would also tell you the same. I'm sure none of you are strangers to the Bnet's fancy background. In all of its dazzling mystique and curious appearance. Are those galaxies? Star-charts? Constellations? Feathers? Bacon? Well, there's a Destiny blog out there that I believe a lot of the Universe-forum regulars may be familiar with; Waiting For Destiny. They've been doing a fantastic job over the past few months. Making fantastic progress at compiling information, providing theories and posing queries. A lot of fantastic work.
THE STAR CARTOGRAPHER
What I'm specifically interested in is what the author, Daniel Duncan, has compiled on Page 3. A composite image of the entire set of images that have been found so far. In it you can see a lot of very curious things. Two things, in particular, being two very noticeable and out of place pure white circles. These both seemed rather too odd to be a natural part of the environment that we've been used to. I had initially considered that they might be bowls in the ground, but, and Daniel has drawn the same conclusion, that these tie in with Dead Orbit somehow. My first reasoning for this is that in previous images of these areas of the map, they aren't there at all. This makes me believe they are mobile of some sort. Additionally, looking at the - what we assume to be - Dead Orbit graphic shirt, it seems there's a link between it and the "two random dots" found on this card. At least, I think there must be. They seem pretty important (well, they're not exactly pretty to look at, and certainly don't fit in with the rest of the image, so it's curious that they exist). You can also see one here. I really like the composite image he made, but I wasn't convinced with the mini-map color example he made. So I've decided to analyse the image and make my own, complete with a Key.
THE MAP OF DESTINY

* Step 1: Initial Underpainting - COMPLETE Involved isolating the painting strokes from the black background and miscellaneous images in the original composite image, and deciding what sort of ground is located where in the image. Also came to a conclusion about the various graphics found in the map and constructed a key to help you understand the map clearer. * Step 1.1 - Made some minor edits to the map (mostly the central mountain).

* Step 2: Topography Redux - COMPLETE Involved repainting the composite image to make the entire image cleaner.

* Step 3: Refined Painting - In Progress Will essentially involve adding extra layers of light/dark values to the underpainting to provide a sense of lighting. I plan on concentrating on the centre of the image.
Step 3.1 - Tested my painting in 3D to see how it looked. If you have anything to add about the map I've made, if I'm behind on information, or if you have your own version of what you think the map is, then definitely post it here! I've been mulling over this whole map in the back of my mind for months now, and I'm happy to say that I am very confident that I've cracked the topography. There are some elements I'm unsure of, but that's based mostly on the sheer lack of map-elements that are still missing that would help me make a much more coherent image. •
Posted by: SkilPhil wow - what a find, poses so many more questions though.
Agreed. Wow! The relative obscurity of this map and seeming insignificance of a small city in the Philippines to a game presumably based wholly or partly in outer space (judging from the numerous references to stars, moons, and planets both in the Destiny Map and other Destiny-related teasers) makes me honestly wonder whether Puerto Princesa was chosen at random because Bungie's artists wanted to use a topographical map of an interesting place for source material for concept art. Let's not forget, folks, that the Destiny Map is concept art created by Bungie Senior Graphic Designer Lorraine McLees (reference: art credits given to Lorraine at the bottom of the 2012 official Bungie Christmas Card). Lorraine is from the Philippines. I've never inquired of her exactly which part of the Philippines she is from, but it certainly seems possible that she has a personal connection to Puerto Princesa. Before we start looking TOO deep for connections, it might be good to temper our searches with the possibility that Lorraine used a topographical map of Puerto Princesa solely because it was a place she was familiar with, was readily at hand, and was obscure enough to make for useful concept art. For all we know, the reason we see some differences in the Wikipedia topographical map and the Destiny Map are because Lorraine used her OWN topographical map pulled off her wall or something as source material, not one pulled off the internet. In fact, my dad has an extremely similar topographical map of his hometown in Maine framed and hung on the wall of his house. It's not uncommon. Unfortunate as it may seem, in light of this development, I think we have to face the possibility that the details and history of the Destiny Map have nothing to do with the eventual, actual game ;-) [Edited on 09.20.2012 12:07 PM PDT]

 • After a lot of researches in clinical medicine and physiotherapy, the Cole Haan Shoesmaker find that the hard and flat ground is not suitable for people to stand on. Their goal was to product one type of Cole Haan Snake Texture Shoesthat will make feet healthier and make whole body in right posture.

 • I'm betting that it will be a sandbox game for the most part. I wouldn't doubt if there were also structured missions and more linear areas where missions take place.

 • According to the leaked art, the city is within something very similar to the Ark's Portal from Halo 3. There are apparently nine spokes/towers rather than seven. [Edited on 11.29.2012 9:53 AM PST]

 • Hrmm after looking at all the images I would have to agree that Puerto Princessa, Philippines is probably the last city. The map we found in the previous set of images as well as the mountains in the background of the latest set seem to support the theory. I'm going to do some more analysis later on...
