What is Firefight?

I recently watched the trailer for the new game, and I was wondering if anyone might know what firefight might be? It sounded pretty interesting. I'm just guessing, could it be a matchmaking gametype of some sort? [Edited on 06.01.2009 12:35 PM PDT]
