Post your ideas for ODST 2!

Only the hardcore ODST lovers come here, so it's up to us to turn this thread into a hypothetical compilation of what [i]could[/i] have been a sequel to Halo ODST. Let's come up with a plot, some key gameplay elements, modes, etc. and share them here. I'll keep this thread updated and gradually organize it as our design progresses. I'll start by listing some things we can go off of: [b]Story:[/b] New Mombassa wasn't fully explored in ODST, so we could say that there were other ODST's in this city that fought in the battle in a different way. We could experience the story from different "Echo Team" who encountered Buck and his squad at some point during fighting in the city. Echo has their own mission to complete within the city. Or we don't even have to do it during this point in the city. The ODST's can drop in before the carrier goes into slip space and help the chief in old mombassa. The ODST's don't even have to be in the city--we can drop them to a completely different battle. Heck, we can even drop them on Reach and have them assist in the battles there. What about Harvest? Though if we drop them there, we lose the urban feeling, which was great and could be expanded on. [b]Gameplay:[/b] > The ODST's can now Sprint at all times. > VISR mode now does infrared and thermal modes, in addition to its night vision > You also have a standard flashlight in case VISR is too glaring > Assassinations are possible for ODST's as well (pioneered by Buck!) > You can pick up biofoam like equipment to heal yourself and your teammates later on > Compass comes back off course--anything to add to the detective feeling [b]Features[/b] > Fully customizable ODST's > Firefight is back (pretty insane...) with ODST inspired modes > New "Battle Bro" mode for 2 that gives you specific missions to complete > Actual multiplayer mode with various styles of gameplay and tactical combat > OPERATION--Invasion-style gameplay, except ODST's have to complete objectives and elites/brutes have to stop them > Play as Brutes and Elites [Edited on 03.02.2011 10:17 AM PST]

Maybe each one should have a debuff - maybe when you have an Armor Permutation that increases melee damage it should reduce movement speed, y'know, because of the added wait.[/quote] That kind of defeats the purpose of the way they design armor, at least if we followed the books at all for this. Its supposed to be light, but very protective.

I hear that one of the top complaints for every halo game so far has been that they are too short.

  • K, I think I have a full idea of how ODST 2 should go, if it followed my idea about it being about Buck. if the game went from the Harvest Campaign all the way to Reach, or even to Halo 3, then the game could have well over 30 levels. levels 1-4, 5 maybe, would be about Buck's exploits during the Harvest campaign. At the time, he may or may not be an ODST, I don't know when he joined the ODSTs so he may just be a marine during those missions. If he becomes an ODST later, missions 5-6 or 6-7 could be based around his ODST training, cause that is supposed to be some tough -blam!- to go through. 8 through...I don't know, maybe 19 could be other engagements on other planets throughout the war, maybe they could start adding other ODST's from the squad, or have a few of the missions be about them instead. 20-25 would be on Reach, and 26-30 could be during the events of Halo 3, skipping halo ODST since we already know what happened. thoughts? P.S. oh, and if you ask why this game would be so long, Buck was in the war for all 25 years of it, so making a game about him could last as long as every halo game combined, including Halowars.

  • This sounds really good. An Invasion style game type would be so incredible! Also, Sprint and assassinations would make the game all the more fun. To be honest all of the ideas sound good. Having biofoam, customisable ODSTs and different VISR modes (with flashlight) all sound like things that could make the game so much better. When I was playing ODST today, I was thinking how awesome it would be to have sprint and assassinations. All Halos should have this. :)

  • This sounds like a really good idea. My only suggestion is if you want to add thermal and infrared modes to the VISR, then you may wwant to consider a story line after the battle for New Mombasa so that it looks like an armor upgrade, or having it be a test unit of some sort.

  • I think it would be cool if you played as the Rookie again except this time, the ODST's explore that Gas Giant from Halo 2. They go there to see if there are any heretics left and then get shot down and crash into one of those stations. The station you crash into would be based off the one you explore in the Arbiter/Oracle missions from H2 but it would be a lot bigger and the whole station is explorable. You would use lots of jet packs, Banshees, and Falcons to get around! There would also be some crazy snipping segments across platforms of the station. And the interior segments would have the player constantly using shotguns, gravity hammers, and swords to fight flood, Covenant loyalists, and sentinels. Firefight would have a couple ariel combat missions but there would also be some remakes from New Mombassa (Lost Platoon, Chasm 10, Windward). Of course all the settings that were available in Reach would be in ODST2 as well, with some minor updates and changes. There would also be a new player limit of up to 10 people. So if the game had online servers, you could join playlists of 1 player (Score Attack), 2 players (Doubles), 4 players, 6-8 players for the bigger missions and of course 10 players for the biggest levels. There would also be objectives in Firefight. Defending generators, rescuing fellow marines/ODSTs, escorting civilians to pelicans, defending certain areas for a specific amount of time, retrieving cores from an enemy bases, taking over command posts, all to add some variety into the game types. Of course there would still be the classic Firefight mode with no objectives. That seemed like the most plausible thing to do as you are not as powerful as the chief and you have more resources available to you. This, however was always very difficult to do. Halo one had a few levels where this was possible. The third level of the game had you sniping out as many covenant as you could before being seen with a night vision scope... for some reason they did away with that and now you are almost automatically seen by the enemy. I would really like to be able to silently snipe a few elites, assassinate a few grunts with a 7 inch diamond coated blade through the skull and then sprint to cover when I am seen and return fire. Setting: As for the setting I think it would be cool if you play an ODST trooper during Halo 1. You fight your way the boarded ship just like master cheif does and then use the drop pod to get to the surface. Not as a surprise attack but as a way to get out alive. Then you play through the game with all the surviving ODST trying to survive on halo and encountering the flood... May not be optimal but I really enjoyed the first ODST because you felt very alone walking through the empty streets of Mombasa in the middle of the night trying to survive not knowing whether your teammates are dead or alive but knowing you need to get out of there...
