• The only thing I would have to say is that the two forge world maps are severely lacking. Aside from the shoddily placed safe and kill zones allowing the players way too much reign in some areas as well as the paths being far too restrictive, it takes far to long to get to forks, etc, and the fact that one can't move between paths almost at all, games become very tedious during times of non action. Atom itself has a serious glaring issue where a player can come across the hammer, focus rifle, rocket and grenade launcher within 8 seconds of each other. Cliffhanger is even worse in this, with multiple paths that lead to nowhere, and almost nothing to the layout aside from the three buildings. That doesn't even account for the fact that one can stand freely on the Forge-Placed rocks behind the base closest to the Pillar. I don't know if you were trying to crowd source map selection methods, but neither of these maps live up to even the least worthwhile of non-forged maps. Up until now, things have been pretty ok, but this new stuff has me worried. I really don't want the guy who chose those to be in charge of the Forgetacular Contest, it would end quite badly. I don't mean to down on whoever that was, but I can't see how it would be hard to see to anyone else that he missed some pretty obvious things. Also, I have been nothing but constructive in saying any of this, as I have pointed out the reasoning behind everything I have said, and will gladly clarify for anyone who thought something was missed. That said, I don't expect to receive any messages with warnings about my post or its content, as I have not done anything wrong, or even mildly rude, for that matter. If I were to receive any, it would just prove that certain people find it uncomfortable to be criticized and that they feel that they need to have things their way only because they are in charge. I like to believe that no one within Bungie is like that, as they ask for suggestions, which lead to criticism, quite often. Have a nice day.

 •
Posted by: Dropship dude Congratulations on the success of Reach, but I'm passing on the DLC and likely Reach altogether as of now. I've attained 1000/1000 gamerscore for it, and struggle to find an appeal to play it more. Halo 3 had better gameplay, at least in my opinion. And, despite the nice touches to Forge, it's still extremely limited. I still look forward to hearing about the new IP and seeing what 343 does with Halo, but for now, I out. It's been one hell of a ride.
halo 2 had the best gameplay. to me halo 2 multiplayer looked and felt more real than halo 3, odst, and reach combined. THE CLASSICS MAN.

 • @UltimateChaos (above) Not everyone who's up to LtC has done something like that. I'm almost there and I haven't. I try to play as efficiently as possible. I complete the gimme challenges consistently and I'm pretty damn good at firefight, so when I get the top score I tend to get more credits. You've just got to be efficient. If you're playing the campaign over and over (without going back to check points) it's going to take forever, and really...who wants to sit there doing the same thing again and again? I agree weapon pickup should stay, but it does get annoying to see someone flying around with a plasma launcher when you're trying to get some precision kills. [Edited on 10.20.2010 6:41 AM PDT]

 • Dude... Stop hating on Bungie just cause' of a level cap! In my opinion the level cap is good, because, your cRedits still count towards the other ranks, right? So basically if you pull out your internet cable and check your rank you'll be higher than Lt.Colonel Grade 3 it just isn't visible ON-LINE but soon it will. The time you spent since hitting the level cap isn't wasted and it's barely even notice-able except for a picture and some armors. And I was super-addicted to ranking up before I got Lt.Colonel Grade 3, now I feel more relaxed and I'm not a try-hard playing Gruntpocalypse 24/7 as I did before. Level Cap IS Good. Thanks Bungie for providing me with the best game evah <3 ~N.R

 •
Posted by: UltimateChaos What about in Campaign going back to a checkpoint over and over grinding mass kills with different weapons? Is that also a bannable offense? Or is there no problem with that? If it's not a problem, what is the problem with exploiting challenges? They're both exploitation of different kinds. One dealing with checkpoint creation on Campaign, the other with network connections. Is it the point that one is controllable, and the other is not? I don't mean these questions to sound like an attack, but just an observation. I'm sure everyone who is LtC by now did something like this with Oni: Sword Base and the Target Locator. I'd just like to hear your reasoning behind banning people who (to my knowledge) aren't hurting anyone elses gaming experience like standby and modding did for H2, and basically destroyed any reason to play matchmaking up to a certain point. I can understand from a security standpoint, that something like this could be used to take points away from people or something much more serious, I just want to hear a rationale. Thank you for your time. As for the update itself, I think weapon pickup should stay on for Sniper Attack. Sure, the ability to pick up an enemy weapon and go infi-fuel rod is not what it was ment for, but isn't there some way to make the weapons you pick up not infinite? (Assuming Bungie's tools are much better than our tools at making gametypes) As for Team Arena, I think some kind of Objective gametype should be input, as well as the removal of radar, as isn't the point of Arena to have an emphasis on skill? And teams should have to have the skills to win objective based games and be able to slay. Other than that, I think that's everything I wanted to say.
Polite you may be, but I'm not sure the assumptions suggested from your observations are valid. The ranking system is set up so that you earn your rank. That's why its fun, and it rewards those who work for it. Its just a matter of fairness, the fact that its already pretty easy to get these higher ranks is reason enough. While it may not directly ruin other peoples' gaming experience, Bungie built the Reach rank system to evolve beyond the Halo 3 ranking system. You may or may not necessarily have a problem with people exposing a flaw in the system to boost their rank above others like in Halo 3, but if you had a second chance you're probably gonna make sure that mistake doesn't happen in your next game. Think of it like this: Earning a high rank is fun, Bungie recognizes this and built the entire game around it. Players start finding ways to earn the rank without actually playing the game the way it was supposed to, and Bungie responds accordingly. At least the people that get punished are allowed to start over, and if losing their precious rank discourages them from ever picking up the game again, sucks for them. You -blam!- with bungie, and they'll -blam!- you back, they can handle losing a couple thousand cheaters, its Halo. And as for your input on the update, I again find your assumptions somewhat off. Despite being the developer of the game, Bungie does not have access to advanced Firefight options, or at least for gametypes in Firefight Matchmaking. Bungie designed the recent history feature specifically so you have access to every map and gametype you played in during matchmaking, including Firefight gametypes. My point is, Bungie uses the same options you have when you customize a gametype in Firefight, they can't go beyond what your custom options allow. And as for Team Arena, think of it more as Reach's ranked Team Slayer. You make it sound like a game of Team oddball or Territories would implement more player skill than say, Slayer Pro. The thing is that while objective games can require skill, the opposite isn't exactly true, you can definitely succeed at an objective regardless of your ability to kill. Also, I'm not sure, but from what I can tell the rank you get every game seems to be entirely dependent on how well you fought, even in objective games, that might be why there's only slayer gametypes in the playlist that has its own ranking system based on how good your rank per game is. I'd give it a while, I'm sure MLG will enter Reach's playlists at some point, and those will probably feature some objective gametypes that balance out skill and ability to achieve objectives.

 • That's probably because when you rank up commendations to a certain point, I believe they give you less and less points for doing it. Or maybe they put a failsafe that only the truly devoted would continue to get MAX Onyx. I just don't want to get banned for something it seems every LtC is doing. Also, something that could have been tested for before they released the game.
