•
Posted by: Srgt Bannana
Posted by: x StilleTot21 x Just figured as a fan since the beginning of Halo i'd throw in my final words on its end. Please excuse the wall of text. To be entirely honest, the fact that Bungie is cancelling matchmaking updates for Reach less than 1 year after its release is really sad. I've had carnival goldfish that have lived longer than Reach. I've been a fan since the days of Halo 1, and was a pretty active member in the community throughout the reign of Halo 2 and Halo 3, and when Reach came out, my interest sadly lasted about a month. I've stayed here on the site (while offering considerably less feedback since Reach) not out of desire to whine or complain (as is commonly suggested by those that seem to enjoy Reach), but rather in the interest of a game franchise I had been a part of since its birth. I really hoped Reach would be able to redeem itself, arguably my biggest complaint was the switch to the Arena over Ranked Matchmaking. I held on for a while, anxious to throw the Reach disk back in when I saw a number by my name, and I honestly don't think I am in the minority when I say that. I understand that there are gamers out there that enjoy the Arena, but looking at the Matchmaking population numbers, you'd have to be completely oblivious to say that Arena didn't have something very wrong with it (wrong enough to draw consistent populations of around 2,000 or less). This update is definitely a bit of closure. Basically there's one chance left that the Ranked Team Slayer of Halo's past will make an appearance, maybe even as a dying breath as something to remember what could have been. That one chance is Bungie day, and based on past MM updates for Reach, an H2/H3 ranking system's chances are slim to none. Although to be honest putting in classic Ranked slayer might be more of a slap in the face than a favor, adding it at the last minute with no further updates. I'm not going to lie here, and I won't sugar coat my feedback, because I care enough about Bungie titles to have an opinion rather than abandon them without a word. I have not been pleased at all with the seemingly oblivious and indifferent reactions to what appear to be endless community pleas for a classic Ranking system. It seemed to me like my requests and the requests of others were ignored entirely, and I get the impression that more effort was being focused on Bungie's next title than fixing Reach, tossing us miscellaneous playlist updates to pacify us ("Flagstravaganza?" Yeah, that was that key part that Reach was missing...), but never showing any interest in fixing what appeared to be the elephant in the room. And as a consumer, i'll remember that. I got the impression that those putting out the MM updates figured that giving us any change at all would satisfy us, giving us things that I can't recall asking for. I'd equate it with asking and hoping for a GI Joe for Christmas every year, and every year getting something entirely different that I didn't ask for, like socks or a sweater or an expired box of Slim Jim's. After that, i'm not gonna be too excited about next Christmas, and I won't be expecting that GI Joe anytime soon. (If you haven't caught my metaphor, Reach MM Updates= X-mas, and a classic Ranked Team Slayer= GI Joe). TL;DR: I remember Reach, and I remember it's utterly pathetic life span. And sadly, i'll still remember it when the next Bungie title is released. When I pick up the next Bungie title on a store shelf, Reach will remain in the back of my mind, and the memories I have of Reach will definitely be a determining factor on whether or not I purchase the next title. Reach hasn't gone out with a bang, it's slowly died since the start, and that's not an end befitting of arguably the greatest series in Video Game history.
^^ I have to 100% agree with this. Bungie will always have a special place in my heart as one of the best game company's ever to make a video game. Its a shame to see Halo go down after 10 years of being with us, i will still remember it for time to come as one of the best trilogies to come out and change gaming as we know it. Alto change is said to be good i cant say i want it to come for Bungie. Halo will always be remembered in gaming history i believe and that is the only thing i am happy about. :( (Long live Bungie) -Josh
