The Shack

Far off into the ocean, there is an island. On this island, there is a dilapidated wooden shack. It had been painted a bright red long ago, but that bright memory has long since been chipping away, and the shack now assumes a dull gray red. Should you see the shack, you must approach it. Do not dare run away, or you will be captured and subjected to unimaginable tortures of the soul, mind, and body. Approach the shack calmly and stand before the door. There is a porthole, which may strike you as odd. Do not stare into it, no matter how much you feel something is watching you from the inside. After a short time, open the door. From the corner of your eye, you see the back of a hunched figure in a rocking chair. Do not let that catch your attention. Quickly look to your right. There should be a small table. On it may lay two things. If you see chains, turn and run as fast as you can, your very soul is at stake. Should you see a lit candle, you are safe. Take it and hold it in front of your heart. The figure who was in the chair before will have appeared mere inches in front of you. It is an old woman. Very old. Her skin is chipping away, much like the paint of the shack. Her voice is as dry and taunting as a crow's caw. She will begin mumbling a language foreign to you. Then she will be chanting. Suddenly her chanting will erupt into a rain of terrors and sorrows that will make tears stream down your face. Your mind will be a fiasco of dark visions and tortures. An unrelenting hopelessness will surround you. You may fall to your knees. No matter what happens, hold the lit candle over your heart. That is your only protection. After an eternity, you will wake up in the rocking chair. The women will be gone. The candle is still lit. As you leave the shack, you see a pile of rust on the table near the door. Walk down to the shore calmly, gripping the candle. Never look back at the shack, for it's evil will be unleashed again if you do. Be content with yourself, for as long as you keep the candle inside your home, no misfortune shall come to you or your loved ones. No pains shall be shared under that roof. You will live a life bountiful with happiness and love. But if the candle should be lost or forgotten, you shall become the figure in that torturous shack. You will be bound by those eternal chains, withering away for all eternity, with no hope for salvation. Until another lays eyes on the shack. [Edited on 04.03.2011 12:22 AM PDT]
