Why is there a postal code field in our user profile?
If you go to your [url=http://www.bungie.net/Account/Settings.aspx]account settings[/url], there will be a field labeled "Postal".
As far as I'm aware, entering-in your postal code doesn't add any sort of personalization to the site. So, what's the point of having that field if I don't get anything in return for giving-out that information? And if it [i]is[/i] used in a way that's beneficial to me (or to Bungie. eg, if it's used for generating useful aggregate statistics or something like that), how is it used?
My guess is that it's a remnant of the past, back from when Bungie.net / groups were primarily used for organizing LAN parties, and that kind of information might've been useful.
Does anyone have some extra insight on this?

I remember it used to have a section on your profile overview that displayed where you lived and such. It never seemed like a good idea to me though, so I never filled it out. Most of that information can be used to recover a WLID. The only other thing they'd need to know is your email and your secret answer. I suspect that is why it was removed.

Its so when you get a ban, bungie.net can post home telling your parents you have been a naughty boy/girl. But there is always one who is a rebel and doesn't enter it, so they find him and chain him to a PC making right 20000 words on why you should enter your postcode.
