A creative solution to bring Y1 Raids to Y2

I know that many people want to see Vault of Glass and Crota's end move up and become Year 2 content. They want to hold fast to the items from the raid because they were memorable, enjoyable, and unique. However, as much as we don't want to accept it, these Raids just don't have a reason to become Year 2. Moreover, it really wouldn't work as Year 2 content. We have essentially mastered these raids and Bungie isn't likely to change the structure of the raids to account for this. ...so, what if they didn't have to? Looking back on Year 1, I only know of two elements that made content difficult. The first is the Nightfall Modifier, which doesn't exist in Y2, and the other is the effect of the Hard Mode raids not permitting revives mid-phase. This got me thinking about these two elements completely altered how we approached content. They forced us to be mindful and careful. So, what if we created a new modifier and added it as a third raid difficult? I offer up the idea of "Insurmountable". The insurmountable modifier would raise the difficulty of a raid to the physical game limit (currently 320). There would be no reviving of downed allies at any point in the raid, but fallen allies would be automatically revived at major phase changes currently. Most importantly would be the consequence of a wipe: all fireteam members would be returned to Orbit and the raid progress reset. For the players that overcome the insurmountable mode, they would be rewarded with gear from that raid at the current maximum light level. Using this idea, the items themselves can remain wholey unchanged, meaning that the elemental primaries will become true signs of personal achievement without becoming the mandatory requirement as only the most expert of raiders will be able to overcome the challenge. To add to this mix, in an effort to reward players for overcoming the megalithic challenge of completing a whole raid without a single wipe and without revives, there will only be 1 Raid Reward, granted after the fireteam downs the associated Raid Boss (Aetheon and Crota). This will reward players a pool of rewards for overcoming the challenge. The intention is to reward the team's success over the challenge and not over individual raid elements. What do you all think? Like it? Hate it? Or general indifference? Edit: added the reward requirement under this modifier to limit the chance of items become barriers to entry.

  • We shouldn't need to ask for content we already payed for, you get a new raid with each DLC, apart from HOW. NO, we get a replacement raid because the other two are pointless.

    • Making the y1 content irrelevant in y2 was not a supported decision by the community. Bungie is one the companies that can get away with swindling the fan base like this. Bringing it back would make people love Bungie. ~TheGreatNike

      • Imagine LFGing that ish. You wouldn't make it past confluxes with most of the people on there. "Must be 320 with Vex, VoC, fatebringer and found verdict". No thanks.
