The Deal with Challenge Mode

Everyone needs to calm down for a second and take a deep breath. Yes, you were hoping for more. No, it is not THAT challenging. Yes, the loot is basically the only reason. No, Bungie did not lie. Here's the thing to remember: If you are on these forums and you have completed King's Fall, you are already in the top 8.5% of registered Destiny players in PvE. If you did so on Hard Mode, you're now in the top 2.7%. (Percentages derived from PSN trophy percentage stats. Screenshot here --> http://m.imgur.com/pfbQQFU) If your Light is upwards of 315, or if you have all of the quest/mission locked exotics, you are the 1%. The 1% is the predominant portion of the fanbase pissed about challenge mode, but they're also the most skilled players in the game. So obviously they weren't going to be pleased with anything less than 15 additional modifiers and mechanic changes and insta-wipes and blah blah blah. Because that's the only way the game would even be remotely challenging for them anymore. But Bungie can't predict the elite behavior of the 1% in development and playtesting. They have a limited amount of information to work with, and whether or not millions of players will use the mechanics the way they predict is impossible to guess. Hence pushing the Templar and Atheon off ledges, and being able to solo Crota and Skolas. The game was not designed for those things to be possible, and yet players of the most elite caliber figured it out and made it happen. Now, if Bungie created a challenge mode of those boss fights where those methods of completion were the goal, the players who already did it would be furious, and the other 99% would find it insanely challenging. Why is King's Fall any different? Most people in my raid group can't run the Warpriest Aura without consistently messing up, so we designate the more experienced players to do it instead. Most people in my raid group don't know how to run Golgoroth's Gaze, so we do the single orb strat. Most people in my raid group are awful at running relic against Sisters/Oryx, so we designate a runner and usually end up wiping if someone crappy gets it and messes up. Do you know why? Because most players are AVERAGE AT BEST at this game. Challenge Mode is designed to be challenging for the AVERAGE player, and to give rewards to those skilled enough to complete it. For those who were already that good, it's a testament to your skill that you could already do what 90% of players probably can't. For those who can't already do it, it's a test that they'll have to put themselves against in order to earn the reward. tl;dr Bungie designed Challenge Mode to challenge the AVERAGE PLAYER, not the Elite top 1% of the player base. They aren't mind readers and can't predict the behavior of the best of the best. Edit 1: Changed the percentage numbers above to accurately reflect current PSN statistics. Also, muted one user for saying I provided no proof, then when I offered to show him some specifically, he said that he didn't need proof to know I was wrong, and then called me an idiot. I don't care if you disagree, just do it like an adult and we'll be fine. Edit 2: 450+ replies and trending. Glad to see the forum is interested in a different side of the content argument. Thanks to everyone who has traded opinions with me so far today. Lots of common respect and solid argumentation, proving the forums aren't all bad.
