An idea on how BUNGIE can fix this Refer-a-Friend DISASTER

As most Veteran players are realizing about now, the Refer-a-Friend program is an insult to loyal players. We have supported Destiny since Day 1 and have brought as many friends into this digital world as we could. Therefore almost NONE of us have anyone left to refer. This would not be a problem if there was not things like cool swords and sparrows locked behind this quest. I had thought Bungie learned their lesson after the TTK Collectors Edition outrage. That being said I and everyone I have spoken to feel that there should NEVER be loot such as this locked behind a paywall as high as buying the game AGAIN. After all the outrage with Collectors Edition was that Loyal players would have to REPURCHASE THE ENTIRE GAME to receive said content. Bungie could fix this problem with Refer-a-Friend loot by allowing veteran players to purchase the rewards through Tess Everis. This may not be seen as a perfect solution but it still gets the job done for both parties (Players/Developers). Veterans would have the option to spend money on the cosmetic items and New players would be enticed by the idea of getting them for free. Thank any readers for their consideration and I hope this gets brought to the attention of Bungie.

  • I am not saying I don't like Destiny. As a matter of fact I love playing it with friends but the negativity that happens when events like this exclude a large percentage of the active player base is not good for anyone. I really just want Destiny to be the best game it can be and feel that voicing my opinion on the matter in a polite and civilized fashion is likely to cause people to take me more seriously than yelling and swearing . I also want to point out one more negative fact of RAF. Many veteran players are likely to find someone to refer only to rush them through the game at an un-natural pace only to abandon them once they get their loot. This actually ruins the experience for new players as they don't get to truly play the game at their own pace. To truly extend the game life span and co-operation between players their should be rewards for playing for so many hours or doing events with clan members. This would encourage long-term interaction between players and would not leave older players out of the reward system.

  • It's whatever man. It's their game. They can do whatever they choose to. We are just along for the ride. I've come to realize this. We aren't entitled to anything. I've referred so many people. I can't refer anymore because there are no more to refer. I don't know to many gamers. There for I cannot access this unless I make another account and go buy the game. I'm not going to do this. I've spent way way to much money on a video game thst was fun at one point. It sucks, because all of cosmetic items should be for sale. Not offered Like this.

    • i don't mind the idea of refer a friend, but the fact that a lot of players already did this at the start of the game when there was no rewards, seems to have missed them completely. Just give the sparrow to refer a new friend and the emotes to everbody who links up with a friend. New or existing.

    • I'm not trying to back bungie but I think half of the idea (other half is greedy money hungry bs) was to make sure that new players that do happen to get the game from their family or how ever have people who are willing to help show them the ropes and make it an enjoyable experience for them. On the other hand, bungie should have known that people were gonna have an issue because currently barely anybody new is playing destiny and the only way to get the content is to get someone to buy the game. After Christmas and Black Friday ect, there will be more than enough people for us to Sherpa.

    • I wouldn't say that It's an insult, but it does kind of suck when you don't have any friends to refer.

(Sigh) It's a marketing scheme. Nothing more, nothing less. It's a way for them to get more cusormers. That's it. It's not an insult. It's not bungie saying "let's screw the original players". Have any of you EVER seen another business? Like when direct tv offers a super bargain to new customers that's not offered to existing ones? Every business has new customer incentives. You may not like it, but it's not out there to piss you off. It's a very simple business practice.

        • Anyone who has paid attention to my posts over my time on this forum knows I am far from being a Bungie fan boy. That said, I will call things as I see it. In this case, as I mentioned in another thread, I have personally been involved with and managed referral programs and I work at a video game company. So I have actual real world knowledge on this stuff from behind the curtain. That link they provide is the validation process. On the back end it provides Bungie an ID to prove that someone was referred by someone else. This will help to get any issues resolved if rewards are not issued, etc. That said, as a business, they have to have some type of control in place to make sure the program is not abused. This link (validation process) is that gate to make sure they don't get burned and are getting actual referrals. Otherwise EVERYONE and their mother would claim they added someone. So that is part of this that people aren't understanding. The other part people are complaining about is that they referred X people in the past and should get credit for it. 2 things on that: 1) - I know this sucks, but the cold reality is, the program didn't exist when you referred someone therefore you don't get to retroactively get rewarded. This is not unethical nor illegal. This should be a common sense issue, you made your referral, the program didn't exist then./end. 2) - Let's say Bungie wanted to reward you for referring someone before the program even existed, how would they know who you referred? There was no program, so there was no validation process (no link to have your friend sign up through) so how would you prove you referred someone? Believe me, I referred people too and would love to get this stuff, but reality is, I have no justification to get pissed off about it based on the above. Luckily I do have a friend who is getting Destiny for the first time next week so I will be referring her.

          • If they leave the refer a friend available for destiny 2 drop im ok with the program. Its easy to miss the big picture when they do stuff like this...however dont forget people that this isnt our final destiny game......we are all more than likely buying destiny 2

            • I hate this shit, and I hate Tess's bitched out prices, but really, if they aren't going to actually add new gameplay, and make earning something in-game meaningful, then they might as well just sell this shit instead of demanding your time and forcing you to find new players.

                • I think im finally done with bungie... I cant support this game anymore than I have, countless friends I have referred before this scheme, countless hours we have all spent and im entitled to nothing as usual.. exclusive this exclusive that. I hope more people leave this game than join. The game isn't the problem its the disgusting attitude and poor decisions of the corrupt company. This isn't the mighty team that brought you Halo. Don't ever think it is. Those of you that think using a secondary profile will work for RAF by the way... think again

                  • You are right. Veterans day 1 players don't feel like they are day one players. I remember when I play other games that if you are a year one player you will receive a special item for saying thank you for continue playing I remember that. 1 game for example. Rising force online gave their year one player a legacy sword. At that time I am new at that game. Then when I saw players carrying those weapon you then recognized them as a veteran players. And every one was happy. And that makes me play that game more because I was hoping to be a veteran when the game celebrate and saying thank you again for the support of playing that game. And it did again. They gave a dual wield sword. I forgot what it called but like I said it feels like they appriciate you playing their game. At destiny they appriciate new players cause it brings income for them. Understandable but remember. Keeping your veteran players happy and if they feel appriciated then they will start recruiting. Even there is no rewards for recruiting a new player. Keep veterans special and happy. Then this game will never die. Sorry for my English and grammar. English is not my first language

                  • I'm a vet player and I do not find this "solution" acceptable. IMO the only thing that would "fix" this situation is if they would let us upgrade our Year 1 gear, or at MINIMUM, our year 1 class armors to current light levels. It is not a stretch to say that if I use my Ghelion's Cloak from Y1 Iron Banner in year 2, it will not break the game. You can't even make that argument. its a VANITY item. Just slap some ammo/progression bonuses on it, upgrade the light level, and call it a day!
