Vanity System

I’ve played Destiny since launch and I’ve always believed in it. It wasn’t the best game at the beginning and it had a lot of issues. But when the Taken King was nearing it’s launch the talk of what it would have seemed to solve a ton of the problems it had. Exotics now have more quests, so you finally really do have an epic story to tell for how you got your exotic aside from “I was in last place in the crucible.” or “I got it from Xur.” The lack of any plot in the story was fixed with more cut scenes, and the lack of content besides the usual missions was solved with long and interesting (for the most part) quests. I was really excited since it seemed as though they were finally fulfilling all the promises they made at the beginning of the game. Except for one. Customization. From the beginning we have heard talk about you getting to look how you want, and how each character will have a cool design to them and you can make your character your own way. Except that’s never been the case, not entirely atleast. Before any DLC dropped if you wanted to be the max level you had to wear the Vault of Glass armor, in Dark Below you had to wear the Crota’s End armor. It wasn’t until House of Wolves that we could wear anything we wanted with the help of ascension. But now that’s impossible again. With all year one armor and weapons being unusable we can’t wear that stuff anymore which frankly is a huge bummer. From the start I’ve said Destiny needs a vanity system. What is that? Well a vanity system is essentially a way to look however you want while still getting the buffs from whatever armor you want. Basically you would have two slots for every armor piece. Two helmet slots, two chest slots, etc. One slot would be the armor you get your buffs from. The armor in that slot would give you it’s armor rating, its percs and its light level, as well as determine how you look if you have nothing in your vanity slot. The armor in the vanity slot would give you nothing at all. No armor rating, no percs, and no light level, but it would replace how you look. In example if I wanted the percs and armor rating of the new raid helmet, but wanted to look like I was wearing the vault of glass helmet I could. It would look as if I was in VOG armor but It would be purely cosmetic. This is something that I think Destiny could really benefit from. Not only would we be happy being able to wear our Shattered Vault Cloak again or our Mark of the Pit, but imagine what Bungie could do with the Eververse Trading Company. They could begin selling cosmetic costumes for our vanity slots. They could sell armor that has no percs, or light or armor rating at all that can only be equipped in our vanity slot for us to wear. I can already see a red hunter cloak with a pointed hood, a little white ball on the end and white fluff around the opening and at the end to make a Santa hat cloak hybrid. Or even just the ability for us to wear our Festival of the Lost masks without having to sacrifice out light level and armor. Destiny could really rake in money with this and again it would be purely cosmetic. I really hope they consider this because it’s something a lot of us would appreciate I think. I heard Bungie reads the forums so hopefully someone there will see this and consider the idea of giving us a vanity system. I miss my Shattered Vault Cloak guys.
