Prepare for a text wall. I tried to keep my opinions fair and grounded. I apologise in advance to the people who actually read all of this, I just want a balanced experience in PVP for all. - I've never used any character other than a Hunter until today. I have two Hunters who are both max level and I switch gear between them when doing nightfalls/raids which put them at 305/307 light. Today I started a Titan because I wanted to experience the Hammer of Sol super. I wanted to see how easy it was to use. I unlocked his super and went into crucible. Holy -swearword-. I never died while using my super. I only once lost my shield and went red. Two times I had someone come at me point blank with a shotgun and shoot me twice before I worked out where he was and just hammered the ground, and followed up with one or two more kills. No other super is like this.. With supers it always feels like you're risking wasting it when you use it but not with Hammer of Sol. Sure, I've seen idiots use their Hammer of Sol while red healthed already and die, because they're dumb. If you're the least bit smart, you shouldn't die while using it unless someone nova bombs you or you get tethered. That being said, people shouldn't be forced to use specific weapons/subclasses just because of this one problem. Shotguns and snipers are enough to take down any other super so long as you aren't caught up in a bad situation and you can land headshots/hide/attack from behind. Yeah I'm a Hunter and for some reason we're shamed in these forums when we complain. I don't care about that, I don't care about "giving titans a time in the spotlight". I care about balance. Hammer of Sol is stupidly fun. I found myself not wanting to go back to my Hunter because I knew that Hammer of Sol made all of my characters subclasses seem inferior in pvp.. And I hate that feeling. Like trying to use any other weapon back when the Thorn was OP or when the Gjallarhorn was the best option for everything PVE related. I love my Hunter because it was the first class I chose and my two friends who also bought the game back in June chose the other two. Even my Titan friends agree that the super is ridiculous... Trials of Osiris is my favourite event in Destiny and I am dreading the thought of teams of three Sunbreaker Titans and knowing that it's going to be impossible to beat them unless you have three warlocks saving their novabombs for the right moment... Even then, Hammer of Sol has better range/accuracy than Nova Bomb (i think) and has roughly 5 shots. It won't come down to tactics, it will come down to "Am I prepared for that one instance? Are we prepared for that one super?". I think Hammer of Sol would be more balanced as a tank. When you use it you can fire off hammers quickly, but with almost no movement (obviously can still turn around and look up just fine). So if you set yourself up in the right spot you can destroy the other team, but can't stop people from running away seeing as it is your only option against it when you have no super yourself. This is probably too drastic of a nerf and won't happen, but that's how I would have made it originally if I were designing it. It's just too much the way it is now. I don't really understand how it was approved in the first place to be honest. My friends get really mad and at times rage quit when they get Hammered too often.. There's just no defense, and no tactical way of attacking it. I felt like I was hacking when I was using it, like it was just unfair. I apologise about the rant, but Bungie as a developer (I hope) would do themselves a favour by hearing out as many different complaints and opinions as possible. I speak for multiple people and not just the Hunter fan-base. Thank you for your time.
