The Lost Pt 2

This is part 2 of an ongoing series. A new chapter will be up each day. Have a look for Pt 1 and read that first if you enjoy. Pt 2 A loss Northern Belarus <56.010540, 28.370899> 6:01 am Four of the guardian sheltered under a rocky outcrop as the Fallen passed above them. Cayde crouched invisible opposite and Darrus, the best climber, was hidden in the trees, ready to provide cover fire. Fortunately the party consisted of a few unseasoned Dregs and Shanks so the fireteam was able to escape notice. After waiting a few minutes to give them a start they crawled out and set off after them, keeping a distance. “I still think we should have killed them”, said Arkus was saying, “We could have destroyed them silently without a scratch on us.” He said with his shotgun drawn. A brute of a weapon he had dubbed “Firestorm” which had a flame burning in front of the four Barrels which emptied with a single trigger pull. The recoil had once taken Darrus off his feet when he tried it. Cayde looked at him, “we could, but then we risked alerting the entire convoy to our presence that may have been a crucial scouting mission, meaning their absence might be noted. This way they will report an absence of threat which will make them lower their guard.” Elpis was less sure. “I’m with Arkus. Those Dregs could become Vandals, become Captains, Become Kells or Archons. Each act of mercy we bestow is to potentially breed a greater threat.” Cayde smiled, “True but our orders are to follow, not engage.” There was a long silence. “Did you hear?” Broke in Darrus, “-------- is dead. Murdered by Draksis.” “The Kell of Winter? Are you sure?” asked Arkus. Well I doubt he saw to it personally, but the report says he fell to winter banners, although there are rumours of Taniks being involved.” Darrus replied in an uncertain tone. ”He was a good man, I doubt we’ll ever find someone equal to replace him.” “Does this mean the infamous Vanguard dare is up?” asked Savos trying to lighten the mood. “Are you two going to try it?” The two Hunters burst out laughing. “Me behind a desk all day? Staring at drab maps all my life? Hell no.” said Cayde. “I reckon I could pull it off, but I dunno whether to risk my freedom.” Said Darrus. “Heads up guys, the convoy’s slowing.” Interrupted Vaska. Now that they checked their radar it did indeed seem as though the pace had altered. Soon it had stopped entirely. The team waited five minutes, ten, fifteen. It was at seventeen minutes when a slight shimmer appeared behind Savos and drew a blade across her throat.
