Theory | The Great Ahamkara Hunt Was a Lie...

...or at the least, a twisted fabrication. We may have hunted them, but we never got rid of them. They may still be influencing the Tower today: Update: Added Pre-Release Bones of Eao, Claws of Ahamkara, and Sealed Ahamkara's Grasp Flavor Text. We can infer this pretty easily after discovering the Books of Sorrow and gaining a greater understanding of what happens when a Worm is taken into a being and influences them. We see patterns of speech change and instead of two separate beings -- we now have one symbiotic relationship maneuvering to the benefit of both. After becoming Oryx, Aurash continuously finishes his thoughts in the Books of Sorrow with a pattern of speech similar to "oh _____ mine". Showing that his Worm is speaking through him. It influences his behavior and they both benefit... We see this same pattern of speech surrounding all of the Ahamkara items descriptions in game: Young Ahamkara's Spine.
"Give me your arm, oh bearer mine. Let me help you fill the world with teeth."
Skull of Dire Ahamkara.
"Reality is the finest flesh, oh bearer mine. And are you not…hungry?"
Claws of Ahamkara.
"Look at all this life, oh bearer mine. There is so much left to burn..."
Bones of Eao (Pre-Release Flavor Text).
"No wonder the warlocks want these boots much, oh bearer mine."
Bones of Eao (In-Game).
"Defy extinction"
-- This statement, while not following the standard, should still cause doubt. Sealed Ahamkara's Grasps.
"Plating the Ahamkara bones in silver helps to protect the quiet auditory hallucinations... oh bearer mine."
We also see this same style of text at the end of the account of the Great Hunt -- Ghost Fragment: Legends 3 -- The Great Ahamkara Hunt:
"After great deliberation it was determined that the Ahamkara be made extinct. It was not an easy decision. Power had been obtained from the bargains, and the City needed power. >Knowledge had been gleaned, and the Ahamkara knew answers to questions no one had known to >ask. But the price was too high. And no edict or forbearance seemed to stop Guardians from seeking them >out, driven by hope, or vengeance, or despair. The call had to be silenced. So the Great Hunt did its work. And thus the Ahamkara were made extinct, their call silenced, their solipsistic flatteries erased, their >great design - if it ever existed - broken. Of this you can be assured, oh reader mine."
TL:DR | So whomever wrote the account of the hunt in the Grimoire Card -- we can assume was under the influence of a Worm, or an Ahamkara artifact (much like Oryx). The part of the card about them being made extinct is the obvious lie. Lying about them being gone -- would render their influence outside of the minds of those who think they're actually gone...
