Exotic Swords - Your Detailed Guide

Introduction to Swords Swords are a new type of heavy weapon in Destiny that explain high risk, high reward. It gives you a feel of accomplishment in the crucible when you kill someone who's spraying loads of ammo into you while panicking. Even better when the sword has no ammo. Step 1 : Beginning A Sword Reforged In order to start this quest, you must first infuse your sword into a 280 light or more heavy weapon, and then unlock a NEW upgrade node that will appear on your sword. It is scabbard. It increases ammo capacity from 50 to 56. To do this, play through heroic strikes or use an exotic from the weapon vendor that is 290+. Infusion gives 80% of the difference between two items. 290 infused to 280 290-280 = 10 80% of 10 = 8 288 weapon Thank you T Moneyzz! Once you have infused your sword into 280 light and unlocked the new scabbard node , you must talk to Lord Shaxx. He will have a new quest for you. Basically, get a 280 sword and fully level it up. Check your sword's upgrade nodes before you do anything. You can have two exotic sword quests on one character. Simply get the sword on one character, transfer it to a different character, level it up on that different character, and get the quest as such. Step 2 : Honing the Edge Shaxx will order you to run out into the world and defeat 50 Major enemies. Major enemies have a yellow bar of health. Ultras have a yellow bar of health with a skull, and they do count towards the quest. The second part to this quest is to achieve 25 guardian kills in the crucible. Difficult, right? The best you can hope for is that some dunce runs around the corner you hid in and gets his head chopped off by your sword. Swords are a one hit kill with heavy ammo. Without ammo, swords do 122 damage, the equivalent to a normal melee attack. "You don't have to camp a corner if you have no ammo. Jump and hit someone and the second you land swing again. Landing cancels the recoil animation and you can get 2 quick swings off." - Altroz, thanks! Step 2.5 : Test Your Blade You must return to Shaxx, as he has the next part of the quest ready for you. Step 3 : Blade of Night After returning to Shaxx he will want you to purify the darkness inside of the sword. He will ask you to kill the guy with the light-saber in one of the first cutscenes of TTK. If you get the reference, good job. You payed attention. In all seriousness, you are to fight Ecthar, Sword of Oryx. This is a level 42 hive ultra who has an arc shield along with a sword. The best strategy to this fight is to kill all additional enemies and use a Jump-RB-RT/Jump-R1-R2 strategy. Thanks faster99! Here's an example. https://account.xbox.com/en-us/gameclip/d7cb6d52-a42d-4e06-8bbf-67556b1f91a2?gamerTag=HighWar%20Knight&scid=37770100-f9ae-4b80-9dad-7c1d0ec14469 Thanks HighWar Knight! However, it's not that simple. He is located in the Asylum, a place that you can only get to in Regicide, or The Sunless Cell Strike. In order to open the door to the Asylum, you must go to the Founts in Patrol. Do NOT start the mission Regicide or The Sunless Cell. This can only be done in patrol. By the door, there will be three Warden's Knights guarding the door in a triangle formation. The left warden has a Void shield. The middle warden has an Arc shield. The right warden has a Solar shield. The best way to open the door is to kill them in one rapid succession. This is easier to do with friends. One friend can super down one knight while you super down the other, then you both meet up and defeat the final knight. You do NOT, however, require to kill the knights in a single super use. Hit them with your sword about 2-3 times. Make sure they're CLOSE to death, but not dead. Then, kill them within 5 seconds. The only thing keeping you from doing this is their elemental shields. The knights must die within around 10-15 seconds of each other. If done successfully, the door will open, and you proceed to fight Ecthar. "Just shoot them in the body several times, get their health down to about 10 percent or less. Their element shields are of no concern, any super WILL finish them off. When they're wounded, they will act differently than with full health. Run around them and lure them toward each other; when they're close, pop the super and don't miss. They all have to die within several seconds at the most, be quick about it just to be sure. If your super is questionable because they're spread apart too much (like nova bomb, FoH) grenade one and try to super the other two very quickly. If the door doesn't open, you weren't quick enough. Backtrack to the previous named zone and wait a bit, let them respawn. When I did this, the additional hive minions weren't there, it was just the 3 knights. It made my second attempt really convenient." Thanks, Dragon_Jarl. Step 3.5 : Blade of Day You now must return to Shaxx. He has the next half of the quest ready for you. Step 4 : Essential Elements This is considered the most difficult part of the quest. You are to attain 500 ability kills and retrieve 10 special materials from patrolling an area and collecting spinmetal, helium filaments, or relic iron. To get the 500 ability kills, simply play the game. Ability kills are grenade, melee, and super. Arc Edge : Get 500 arc ability kills. Stormcallers and Bladedancers can get this done simply. Striker may have some problems, as their super is very restrictive. Sol Edge : Get 500 solar ability kills. Sunbreakers and Gunslingers can get this done simply. Gunslingers throwing knives do not count, but that doesn't make it ifficult. Sunsingers will have a bit of problems, due to the fact that weapon kills during radiance do not count. You are strictly grenade and melee. However, song of flame will help. Void Edge : Get 500 void ability kills. Voidwalkers laugh at the other two subclasses. Nightstalkers will have some trouble as the smoke does not count. Defenders will rage at this, due to the fact that Ward of Dawn is a support-based ability that does not contribute to kills. You are strictly grenade and melee. You should not attempt to clear your ability kills first. Just try to get it done before Wednesday, or Armsday. The second part to this quest is hunting materials. Oh joy, we're playing post-dark below destiny. Hunting spinmetal, helium filaments, and relic iron. JOYOUS. A faster way to get this done is to just drive around an entire area with a ghost that will help you spot the specific material of the planet. If you have arc, get a spinmetal ghost. Solar, get a helium ghost. ETC. When collecting Spinmetal ( ARC EDGE ), Helium Filaments ( SOL EDGE ), and Relic Iron ( VOID EDGE ), you will have a 5-10% chance of getting a special material along with one of the three you collected. You require 10 of these special materials. Good luck, guardian. Players have reported that if you go up to a high area and zoom out a scout rifle/sniper rifle scope you can see the material locations, making it easier to hunt for them. You must have the ghost, or nightstalker keen scout for this to work Step 4.5 : In Good Temper Return to Shaxx. He has the EASIEST part of this quest for you. Step 5 : Armsday Alloys Wait until the next armsday. Wow, so difficult. If you get this part ON armsday, it will not count, thus you have to wait until next week. Step 5.5 : Take Up Arms Return to Shaxx. You are nearing the final round, guardian. Step 6 : Sealing the Blade Shaxx will order you to do The Sunless Cell strike with 300 light and epic modifier. Be warned, this is very difficult. Your team must respectively kill their Warden and then kill Alak-Hul, the Darkblade within a 30 second time lot. Just whittle him down slowly, keep you wardens at respective amounts of health, and get it done. The current easy way to do this is to make sure every person on your team has the same sword. This way you only have to kill ONE of the wardens. The wardens spawn in order. Arc, Void, then Solar. You do not have to do this with everyone having the same sword. But, it makes it easier. Arc Knight - Hive Sword Knight Void Knight - Hive Boomer Knight Solar Knight - Taken Boomer Knight Kill the wardens you DO NOT need, keep one alive, and proceed to whittle boss down as needed. Once Alak-Hul is nearing imminent death, kill the warden ASAP, then unload into Alak-Hul. You have 30 seconds. Use them wisely, yes? Or, you fail. There is matchmaking for this strike. Final : A Blade Reborn Congratulations, Guardian! You have unleashed true potential in your sword, and have achieved one of three exotic swords! If you chose Void Edge, I applaud you. AND GUESS WHAT? YOU KEEP YOUR LEGENDARY SWORD! HELL YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Enjoy your 310 Heavy Weapon! Bolt-Caster Perk : Sword of Thunder Use R1/RT to shoot a beam of Arc Light from your sword creating a lingering electrical storm. Players call this Destructo-Disk. Dark-Drinker Perk : Supermassive Vortex Use R1/RT to unleash a spiral of Void energy in all directions. Players call this Link Simulator 2015. Raze-Lighter Perk : Phoenix Uppercut Use R1/RT to launch into a Solar Light uppercut. Players call this Shoryuken. Thanks for reading this guide, Guardians! Edit : 1000 likes! • I'm kind of stuck. I just beat Ectha... whatever for the arc sword. I got the part of the quest where I am supposed to collect spin metal and practice my arc ability. I just spent an hour collecting spin metal without the material I need dropping. I must have opened between 20-30 spin metal leaves. Am I doing something wrong. I opened a few of the ones that glow and they didn't produce the material either.
