TL;DR: Yes, Blade Dancers got the shaft this update, but you can sort of make them work by abusing stealth and the shotgun -> Blink Strike combo in the meantime. . Right, Blade Dancers pretty much got shat on in the 2.0 update. It wasn't enough that they nerfed our best grenade and Blink, but they also decided, "Hey! Let's give the Titan and Warlock subclasses supers that are literally better than Blade Dancer in every way! Oh, but we'll let them keep the stealth that eats up a quarter of the super bar, so they can still feel unique/continue their revive-bot duties in strikes." The class is NOT in a good spot right now overall, I do agree... It definitely needs some love. In the meantime, though, I do have some tips that make it usable in Crucible! I've actually been doing quite well with it, in fact. WARNING: Keep in mind when reading below that Blink Strike has a bit of a delay bug on it, wherein it can take a solid half-second for the attack to actually register upon hitting an opponent. It doesn't happen all the time, but it's not rare to end up staring at your target for a bit after hitting them either... Or sometimes getting a gut full of shotgun. Fortunately, the tactics below still seem to work well enough, with my average K/D of late manage to hover around 1.5-1.8 in Crucible since I've started this In a nutshell, you're going to specialize in stealth about 1/2 of the way. You want Escape Artist on Blink Strike, and Stalker. This will turn you invisible after each melee attack, and allow you to gain stealth when crouching for a few seconds. Then, take Blink, Razor's Edge, and Quick Draw. Quick Draw and Blink can be substituted out if you want, but I'm pretty sure Quick Draw helps negate some of the readying nerf that was applied to Blink... And Blink is still pretty good if used right. So, for your weapons, you're going to want to roll a good mid-long range primary, like a long-ranged Auto Rifle (I use a Suros purple I got that has 3/4 maxed range personally, but whatever you like) and a shotgun. The shotgun's important here... So much so, in fact, that I recommend trying to pick up Invective if you can. That regenerating ammo's pretty sweet, and Invective's high rate of fire mean that it can actually hold it's own just outside of Shotgun range if you get caught with your pants down. And, because we're Blade Dancers, we don't care that the kill-range is lower than other shotguns or the new exotic shotty, the Chaperone. We'll get to that, though. For this to work, you need to understand how stealth works... Which is to say, you need to realize that it does NOT make you totally invisible. If anyone stares straight-at you without something else concealing you, they'll know you're there. Stealth is NOT something that lets you walk right up to someone and unload a shotgun in their face. Why is it so good, then? Because it does two things: First, it removes you from people's periphery vision. If they did not look directly at you, chances are good that they didn't see you at all, ESPECIALLY if you're still and they are moving. Second, and this is HUGE... It totally removes your presence from the radar. You can easily slip behind a group of enemies with a well-placed stealth by simply walking down a hall they aren't looking at, and can then swing up behind them and put that shotgun at the BACK of their head. The only real rule of thumb for Stealth is to avoid sprinting if you think an enemy might pop up around the corner. Sprinting DOES make you much more visible, but if you don't sprint and you happen to bump into another enemy, 8 times out of 10 you're going to be just invisible enough for them to take a few moments to realize that you're there - maybe only a fraction of a second -, but that's all the time you need to blow your shotgun in their face. So, general gameplay: You're going to want to try to stay in close-range situations, positioning yourself to catch people into ambushes. This part is key: You are NOT an uber-aggressive class anymore. You're not as calculating as a Nightstalker, but you don't want to go running in blindly. You'll die. You see a person in your close-mid range slot on your radar that might be coming for you? Crouch and go into stealth. Most of the time, they'll think you ran off and go running through the door to "catch" you, at which point you, again, introduce them to your shutgun's business end. (Noticing a pattern here?) If they don't come closer, they're probably trying to bait you out the door, or see if they can angle in and see you or your shadow. While still invisible, simply walk out and shoot them; most of the time you'll be invisible enough to get the shot off before they realize what's up, but keep in mind that you can't win them all... Sometimes you will die. And DO switch to that primary if you're going to longer ranges! That's what it's for. You don't want to be that silly guy charging a firing Auto Rifle down a long hallway in some silly attempt to get into close range before you die. The best toy comes from Blink Strike, though... And how it interacts with Shotguns. As I'm sure you know, outside of their killrange, a Shotgun will typically do around half a person's health, perhaps a bit more or a bit less depending on just how close/far you are. The fun thing about being a Bladedancer is that your melee - SURPRISE!- is capable of hitting at these ranges as well! Get used to always hitting melee after a shotgun blast, because you're going to be doing this a lot. This actually gives your shotgun an EFFECTIVE kill range longer than nearly any other shotgun in the game, and is very, very potent when used to its fullest. Since we took Stalker and Escape Artist, we can actually do something quite fun... Find a good opportunity to stealth and sneak up on a target using Stalker, preferably on the outside edge of a group. Then, pepper him with your Shotgun at a range that WONT immediately kill him, but instead leave him at half health or lower, and immediately follow up with a Blink Strike. You'll kill him and immediately turn invisible again, allowing you to continue sneaking about so you can pounce his buddies. If you're like me and run Sealed Ahamkara gauntlets... Well, it's quite fun~ Also, learn to use Razor's Edge in Arc Blade more often. You get fewer shots that way, but you don't have to worry about shotguns as much, and it's better on fleeing targets. Figuring out when to use that and when to slash can be quite tricky, though.... That said, yeah, the super's pretty much outclassed by every other super nowadays.
