From the grimoire Kings Fall
You were not supposed to touch the Light.
Is the key to getting the secret Oryx challenge not igniting the blighted light and killing him?
To pull this off the first time we'll likely need some of the best of the best.
Kings Fall
Light must obey the sword-logic...Oryx was challenged, yes, but challenged in the way of the Hive, which is to say that challenge is worship — is challenge — is power. Sword-logic.
Here we can see that sword logic, which can be interchanged with both challenge, worship, and power, is the honor code of the hive.
Echo of Oryx
Oryx inhabits a world where power is truth. To win is to be noble, and to be real...The echoes of Oryx go forth to ask a question: are you the truth?
Here we see that Power and Truth can also be changed to represent this idea of Sword Logic. The echoes tested us to see if we would play by the rules of the Hive, which we did.
He has twinned himself so closely to the power
Oryx has essentially made himself one with the Hive honor code.
In each act of His power Oryx seeks to incarnate the self-sustaining, immortal suzerainty that He worships. The power that He uses to wash his Taken clean and etch them into useful shapes.
Oryx wishes to become the very thing that he is turning the taken into, the darkness
Oryx: Rebuked
He is not a simple thing to kill. He wants to be isomorphic to conquest, to triumph, to killing and death. He is a syllogism, now, but in time He hopes to become an axiom. This is His strength and His fatal weakness.
The axiom has been referred to as many times as being the final queen, the darkness. His weakness is wanting to be consumed by the darkness.
For if he ever falters in His performance, if the inflow of devastation ever falls behind His expenditure of ruin, He will be consumed. If He is ever outmatched, then by the terms of His own existence, He will cease. It is to Oryx Himself, in the heart of the Dreadnaught that armors and encapsulates his throne-world, that you must make your last and surest argument.
His performance is the sword logic. We fell into the trap of performing exactly how the king wanted us to. We have made the darkness consume him twice. To finish him we must break the honor system of the hive. We must not fight on equal terms, but rather at a disadvantage. We must kill him without the blighted light.

*4 days later Oryx finally dies from guardian weapon damage*
-
Interesting to say the least.

-
What's the fastest Oryx kill? Just wondering because we have downed him with 3 orbs this week.
-
Slayerage, where you at?
-
Or maybe it just comes from hard mode... :P
-
Sounds so -blam!-ing kl
-
I am going to go out on a relatively short limb here and say: It's impossible to kill him without detonating the blights.
-
I think considering the context of the card, it's the opposite. If what you say is true, and Oryx send his echoes to test us to see if we would abide by sword logic, then we were not supposed to touch the light, however we did. The person who is speaking in the card is not us and appears to be an observer. We did not abide by sword logic by usin he light prompting the observer to say, "You were not supposed to touch the light"
-
Have you even done the raid. You do dick damage without the light. He will enrage and i don't even know what happens at that point
-
This is bloody brilliant, even if you're dead wrong. I will be singing praises of your name if indeed we have to do the Heroic version of the Oryx fight how you have described.
-
Player damage doesn't really matter in the fight against oryx (not including the stun). The blighted lights are the only thing that really effect his hp.

Edited by El Mar: 10/1/2015 1:42:55 AMIf you read the book of sorrow it clearly states that
the only way he can be killed is when he is challenged and killed in the throne world. Since we challenged and killed him in the throne world in the raid, he is more than likely dead. Now the worm God inside him? That's another debate for another time...
So I don't really think it matters how we kill him. I think those challenges or secrets might be something that will be uncovered in the raid hard mode.

6 touch of malices. ~1.3k damage each shot, wiuld that even be enough to down him?
-
Datto got oryx down to 30% health without THE BLIGHTS which is insane so it could totally be possible
-
Bump for later
-
The Legend Himself
-
Oryx will heal if the corrupted light is not reclaimed.
-
It's good in theory, but if you've ever missed detonating any of the orbs you'd realize that he stays up insanely longer, then "regains favor with the darkness" and heals himself to full and summons the echo. We had this happen on the 2nd rotation so he was already under 3/4 health then he healed to full. So I'm not sure how that would work tbh
-
Sounds like the atheon fight as well. Wonder if we're strong enough now to try that without the buff
-
Makes sense but do you know how much health oryx has?!?! Probably over a billion and not to mention he has no crit spot, how the hell are we supposed to do that?
-
-
I have noticed that on the first phase if you don't destroy any blights then he goes right to the echo phase instead of that phase where you have to run. Maybe keep killing echoes without destroying blights? And did anyone open that door that's near the R1 pad?
-
Good theory but I think it would be impossible to kill Oryx without detonating the Blighted Light as he would enrage before you even got him close to death effectively wiping the team. Unless there is another way to damage him that no one has found yet. I assume it has to do with Hard mode raid
-
What is the blighted light? I haven't finished the raid yet.
-
I can't even begin to imagine how long it would take to kill him without using blighted light. Does anyone know if he enrages?
