Does anyone else feel like hand cannons need more ammo in reserves for pve?

I love using hand cannons so much and despite all the nerfs to them I still think they are pretty decent in pve. It just sucks because I feel like I run out of ammo easily now and when I finally find a primary ammo pack I feel like I don't get enough ammo from it. I would like to hear opinions on this matter; do you guys think they should hold more in reserves or what? Edit: Wow, this is the most popular post I have ever made (sorry if that sounds lame lol). But I am glad I am not the only one who feels this way about the ammo!

  • This is a problem and one of the stealth nerfs Bungie implemented. Don't know what they have against handcannons but they're trying hard to make people not use them.

most legendary hand cannons are actually fine ammo reserve wise. my vanity for example has 8 rounds in the chamber and 83 in reserve without any ammo capacity upgrade perks, and receives 25-40 rounds per ammo pack depending on my activity. exotic handcannons however are an entire different story. every single exotic handcannon has about 15-20 rounds less than a legendary which also impacts greatly how much ammo they get from each ammo crate. makes just about every exotic handcannon useless in pve.

    • It's definitely weird to run out of hand cannon ammo more frequently than auto rifle ammo...

The only hand cannons that needed a tunning were Thorn and The Last Word periode. All the others were fine.

      • No, but they need a damage nerf.

        • I do tend to run out of anmo a lot more than before ttk but usually on special or heavy weapons. Really do miss the armor and scout perks :(

        • I have been using them fairly heavily and I have not noticed much of a ammo issue, but I also cycle my weapons now more than I used to. I am constantly switching between weapons. Granted I tend to use a sidearm when I am not using a handcannon if not doubling down and using both. I find with the more frequent heavy drops I end up using my sword to break down the tough enemies and use sidearm or hand cannon for the tier one or weakened tier two enemies. Also the new supers leverage a lot of kills that don't require ammo. It isn't to say that there isn't merit to how the issue feels especially on the back end of everyone just steam rolling through content with the Fate bringer and Exotic handcannons, but I honestly feel there is a much better feel of diverse weapons play than the game originally supported. Also situational awareness goes a long way if you make sure you aren't picking up the white boxes when you are almost full and shorting yourself on ammo. Considering it seems that they buffed the amount each white ammo box returns. Last aside... the green special ammo boxes in strikes also return primary ammo. I am sure I will get flamed for my well written opinion, but hey that's what I get when I jump on a forum thread where everyone is already decided on the answer of the question since the slanting of the question supports their feels.

Totally agree. No matter what hand cannon I use, (specially the Hawkmoon, Ace Of Spades, Imago Loop) I always find myself being forced to switch to my special or even heavy weapons on many occasions. I wouldn't get your hopes up thinking that Bungie will see this and make a few changes because that fact is that they often ignore negative feedback and personal opinions. I can't see why anyone who is primarily a hand cannon user would disagree with this. It might just be me, but ever since year two hit, it feels like 'Juggler' is a permanent perk on patrols. I often find myself having to use primary weapon synthesis just to get more ammo. But as I said, Bungie won't do anything about it. They're scrubs.

            • Hand Cannons are the only weapons in the game that I actually run out of Ammo on primary, I feel like they belong in the Special section instead of Primary, just always out, they are great in pvp but due to the ammo they run out way to much in pve... scout rifles are similar to hand cannons in that they are single shots yet a scout rifle can have 300+ ammo, while max i've seen on a hand cannon was just under 100, hand cannon does hit harder in close range sure but again gotta be close range to get those high numbers, need more ammo

            • Yeah, HC become very weak if there are a lot of low level enemies hanging around or you have to kill the boss and you aren't getting ammo drops. You can OHK a thrall with a SR or a HC but if there are weak enemies around you will likely run out of ammo with the HC because you get about 3 to 4x the amount of ammo with the SR. Same with trying to shoot a bullet sponge too, you have 3 to 4x the ammo with the SR, so even though each shot does about 2/3 of the damage, you still get a ton more damage/kills in reserves even though it takes longer. I don't think the ammo should be bumped above, let's say 120ish. The lower ammo capacity and worse long range ability are the downside to using the higher DPS, better short range weapon.

            • Weapons should have never been touched for PVE. PvP on the other hand, "balancing" continues to be an issue.

              • Dare I say improve your aim? j/k ;)) Seriously tho, it would be nice, even though it's not that often I find myself in this position unless there's a Juggler modifier active.

              • For sure. Even with a full set of hand cannon ammo increases, I still run out easily in PVE. I feel that primary rarely drops. Auto rifles and Pulse rifles almost have endless ammo. Precision weapons run out all the time even if you're in the midst of the firefight. My argument for the now craptastic range and accuracy on HCs is to boost the reserves. Bungie, buff the ammo. Do a buff for once.

              • Yep double the ammo on most primaries honestly as most guns run out of ammo in en game content, even scout riffles sometimes now that they nerfed field scout.
