Where to start?

I haven't played since February because of a deployment. I have been reading about all the updates and changes to destiny and was looking to get some insight on where to even begin when I get back soon! Anybody got some tips?

Buy the taken king if u already haven't or else u won't be able to do ANYTHING. Everything will fall into place once u have the dlc :)
