Bungie has been through this before. When they allowed themselves to be bought by Microsoft, they made sure everyone who was currently working for them agreed to the acquisition, but they were never the same company afterwords. The only name that I recognize anymore in Jason Jones. He was there in Chicago when Bungie was making games the way they wanted. Everyone who rolled in during the Myth years, that became part of the Halo team, weren't the Bungie I knew. So for me, this drama is nothing new, they've gone through transitions before. Halo was half the game it was supposed to be as well, but because it was released at a time when people had such low expectations of what an FPS game was supposed to be, they easily took the spotlight. Something I noticed pretty early on was Bungie's collective cockiness and prima donna attitude. From telling Marathon players to get off the Myth forums because the game we loved was dead and forgotten, to telling people that the Xbox was cheaper than the PC we were going to buy for Halo. Seriously, they fully expected that people were going to buy a new computer (which included Macs at the time) just to play Halo. And yet we are upset because Luke said we'd throw money at the screen. Bungie has been doing the same thing for a long time now. Don't get me wrong, I've loved their games over the years, but they think they're rock stars. Once they finally made some money, they pulled a John Carmack and started acting like they were god's gift to gaming. The fact that some of them left over creative differences (read: their egos got bruised), is a sad part of today's AAA gaming industry. The money required to make games the way Bungie does requires publishers and investors. Ever since we came up with the idea of currency, those who had it have dictated those who don't. I wish Marty and Joseph well in their future endeavors, but Bungie we keep on going without them. It's hard to replace people like that, but it's doable. As for Destiny being chopped up and resold as what we got last year is still nothing more than conjecture. Marty's music is still in the game, even if they couldn't shoehorn a 3 hour epic score into 5 minute fight sequences. Joseph's story is still there, even if they had to cut and rewrite it because they had 9 more years of content to fit into his standalone masterpiece. What I'm saying is, quit fooling yourselves. Destiny was always the train wreck it was in year one. There was no grand space opera that surpassed all of our imaginations. It was always what we got. There may have been more plot and some longer loading screens with music... But they did not cut and recode a game they'd been working on for 6 years in the last 3 months. That's my rant... And I of course could be totally wrong, but I doubt it. In a nutshell, I'm salty because Bungie has done this to me before, twice. I am resentful that the Halo kids think Halo Bungie is the only Bungie. I feel invalidated because I never bought an Xbox and had to go without my Bungie games for 15 years. As such, Destiny was my doorway back into their world and a lot of people trash talked it, continuing to feed the flames of wishful thinking (there there was ever something more). I mean, just so we are clear, I am not without bias in this post.

If you hate it so much stop playing it. Marty was a good composer, and it sucks to see it go but oh -blam!-ing whale, guess we can't always get what we want!

              • Musician gets fired, isn't given his vacation pay or shares, sues to get them back and gets them back. What part of that answers everything? Answers everything about what? He jeopardized a contract, returned from vacation uncooperative and disruptive to production and other team members and was fired for it. Rightfully. The only wrong here was that Bungie didn't give him his benefits per their contract with him, but then he sued and got them. It happens in businesses around the country every day.

                • I honestly could care less. This has nothing to do with the core aspects of the game. I'm just going to enjoy the game because it's fun and was meant to be so.

It does answer everything and shows how ridiculous his temper tantrum was. All because in one single trailer they had one song that wasn't his he was publicly bashing the company that was paying him and trying to hurt game sales. He was willing to do that in public so just imagine how professional he was behind closed doors at board meetings. What really annoys me is that the company that Bungie partnered with to market and sell the game, who obviously knows best at how to sell it, is being made out to be the bad guy because they made a single decision on a marketing advertisement. You don't get to take a $500 million investment from a company that wants to make that money back by selling your game without accepting that they'll have say in advertising the product they're selling.

                        •
story was revised
I like how everyone here immediately thinks this means things were cut up to hurt the fans. That doesn't even make sense. What if there were loop holes? What if there were plot holes? What if the story just wasn't good? What if it was predictable? What if it just didn't work? No. We can't think logically here. It always has to be "Bungie cut cut cut money Activision illuminati Bungie hates their player base!!!1!!111!" Now yes, I've seen the one cut cutscene "out here in the wild, this is how we talk" from the E3 trailer. I've also read the "leaked" "old destiny story" and honestly, that story -blam!-ing sucked. It didn't have motive, it wasn't compelling, and it wasn't in depth. And the reason the in game story sucks now is because Bungie just didn't have time to fix it. But it remains in the Grimoire (the new story that didn't make it all the way into the game) which is very in depth and compelling. With TTK, we've seen more story in the first mission than all of the story missions in the vanilla game combined (hyperbole, but it is 10x than the vanilla story missions). And in the trailers, story also lyes. (Now you may say they'll cut it like the did the original, but the game really can't afford a hit like that right now. That'd truly kill it and Bungie knows it. If you've seen interviews, you'd see that the developers know the screwed up bad) Marty put a lot into his work, I understand that. I understand why he acted as he did. I get it. But he shouldn't have acted that way. It just wasn't a mature way to act. Especially since afterwards, he stopped working hard on his pieces. It's a shame Activision did that. It's in the past. What happened to us looking forward to TTK? Can we do that?

                          • About the shares I'm on Marty side obviously. But I guess if I were working for bungie I would have fired him too. I know he was not happy about the E3 stuff and the no release of his "album" but well... The E3 video was still awesome and about the music it was maybe strategic. We don't know the whole story.

                          • It doesn't answer anything. Composer acted like douchebag. Company tried not to pay composer. Composer wins legal battle. This literally has nothing to do with the development of the game. Besides, Masayoshi Soken should compose ALL music, for ANY game ever.

Lead developer leaves. Game designers leaves. Composer leaves. Wonder why...

                                  • The destiny community is way too emotionally involved with the inner workings of Bungie way more than any game and it's still just another game and the company operates no differently than any other. If you enjoy the drama then feed off the daily hype and gossip ,cuz it will always be there, i'm still 100 % sure you'll play the game no matter the hype anyway so what's the difference.
