9/2/15 Twitch Stream Review: Court of Oryx (link to stream imbeded)

Greetings fellow Guardians, So today was the final TTK Twitch reveal. Oddly it is not available in the Twitch archives to watch, however ZRSGamingHD was kind enough to put it up on YouTube for us. Link is above for anyone who wants to watch the stream. So today we had DeeJ with the audience and a fireteam of Laced Up Lauren, Urk and Ben Wommack (Poor Coz got left home today. Boooo). To start out Ben explained that the Court of Oryx is player triggered public events. Throughout questing in the Dreadnaught, Rune Items will drop, which can then be taken to the Court within the Dreadnaught to trigger public events whenever we want. As with any other PI, anyone in the area will be able to join in and help out. So before they head out they had LUL bring up one of the swords to inspect. It's a 310 solar AP named interestingly enough RAZE-LIGHTER (Obviously this was Bungie giving me a secret shout-out for the beautiful ballad I put up for them yesterday. Love you too guys.) Some of the perks include: Tempered Light: Increased armor when wielding the sword. Thrive By The Sword: Kills with the sword grant super energy Phoenix Uppercut: Use R2 to launch a Solar Light uppercut And optional choices Warrior of Light: Increased damage for your R2 attack and a last they didn't highlight, but most likely an optional armor boost. So into the Dreadnaught, not sure if we're seeing them drop in to an actual starting area or if were already somewhere within it. So it's basically a large room we're in where Taken drop in to fight. As they're slaughtering Taken (LUL is using a pretty cool looking Suros AR btw with a pretty cool new sight that actually is retracted when not sighted and pops up as just a clear oblong piece of glass when sighted.) They're telling us that we won’t discover everything at once, that there will be little threads of mystery to pull us through. They discover one called an Agonarch Rune it shows a quest challenge on it to "hunt down the hidden Taken threats. 0/7 [completed]". At the end of these quests and challenges will be chests full of loot. While they are talking there is a mini public event taking place of Cabal moving against Hive like in Skywatch. LUL has a Ghost shell on with a perk that puts a waypoint marker above a new material "Wormspore". It should also be noted there are still patrol beacons to be activated if you so desire. Now they're going to a zone called the Hall of Souls where the Court of Oryx arena is located. As the pass through they come upon a summoning ritual much like the Blades of Crota which triggers another mini encounter. They are saying that events throughout the Dreadnaught are more random in nature. It won't be like say the Cosmodrome, where the enemies are always in the same places. Sometimes enemies will be fighting in a particular spot in the Dreadnaught and sometimes there won't be any there. They are now at the Court of Oryx. The hall leading to the arena is lined with 6 statues representing enemies we'll be fighting in the Dreadnaught. When an event is not in progress, the arena is filled with a liquid-y floor that causes damage. The statues are 3 per side and this is significant because there are 3 difficulty levels to the events. To start an event a Guardian has to have a rune to offer to a statue. It's still max 3 person Fireteams obviously, but up to 9 players can be in the zone together participating. Only one Guardian starts an event at a time and afterwards a chest spawns which only they get loot from. The other participants get a chance at some rewards too, but more likely rep, mats and more runes. There are different level runes and in order to do the tier 2 event, you first have to beat the tier 1 three times to charge the rune. Not gonna lie, this seems a bit obnoxious and just a little too much grind (especially when we've leveled past tier 1 content). Each boss in the Court will have their own mechanic that needs to be figured out in order to beat them. The first boss they fight has an Arc shield initially, but it will change each time it comes up like the Cabal boss in PoE. LUL hits him 4 times with a sword and he's dead. After the fight is over and back at the statues, the person who started the encounter has a 40 second debuff before they can start another. This ensures the same person isn't constantly getting to start the events, but still seems like this would be a clusterf*ck with nine randoms all wanting to start events. Another mechanic is if the person who started an event dies, they have like 20 seconds to rejoin the fight or it ends. This is so the person in line for the chest reward can't go afk and let everyone else do all the work for them. They are starting another tier 1 event and point out that the same bosses will never come out twice in a row. The next boss fight is actually 3 wizards and they use a nice WoW mechanic and have to be killed relatively close together or they come back to life. It should also be noted that there is a 3 minute timer to complete these events. After beating the fight they're showing a "Stolen Rune" in LUL's inventory. This is to start the tier 2 event and it now has 2 charges (out of 3). We find these Stolen Runes out in the world and have to have them in our inventory prior to doing the tier 1 events. Again, like the boss mechanics of the Court, it actually seems more like what a lot of us thought we were going to get with PoE... but I'm not sure how long we'll all want to sit and run endless tier 1 events to charge our higher level runes. We'll find out 9/15 lol. On to the third tier 1 fight. This is a Hive Knight and a Taken Knight with invincible shields until they are drawn close together. The key to this fight is to kite them close together and try to burn them down as much as possible before they split up. This fight showcases a nice use for the new hunter super which binds enemies together. Once one is killed, the other loses their shield and is an easy kill. Tier 2 they're putting at just below Nightfall difficulty. So tier 2 is two sets of tier 1 bosses at once (4 minute timer). The first encounter they're in is an Ogre that can only have his shield removed by exploding Thrall and the twin Knights are back out. They burn the Ogre first and then take on the Knights again. Once again the sword heavies are about 4 hit kills once the boss shield is down. Tier 3 events require Antiquated Runes (again need to be charged with 3 tier 2 fights). These bosses they say are more like raid bosses that require specific strategies to beat and the rewards are "really, really good" They are doing another tier 2. New ability, Hunters can make everyone briefly invisible if close enough together. The first boss they're burning is a single Knight that they drop pretty quick. The other boss is a Taken Centurion that can only be damaged when all his minions are dead (there is also a Hive dropship bombarding from above). Once his minions are dead, there seems to be about 3-4 seconds to burn the boss before more adds spawn. Takes then to no time left, but they get the kill. They're not going to show tier 3. And that's about it. They give Destiny PS4s to LUL (and to previous guests too) to give away to one of her Twitch followers. Finally they let Luke come out to show a brief trailer for King's Fall which will be released on 9/18/15. The trailer really doesn't show much, but does have fine use of the Dolby Digital sound bite they play before IMAX films. So what did you all think and what questions do you have after this last reveal? My initial take is that the bosses do look more interesting (though still a little too heavily reliant on shield mechanics) and the Dreadnaught still is pretty much a mystery. Will there be invisible walls and ceilings or is it completely open to explore and filled with hidden areas to discover? I'm also curious what our motivation will be at endgame level to go back to the planets to quest and explore. The swords and Suros AR look cool and I heard from a friend of a friend of a cousin of a friend that they're already working on the sword nerfs for the baby posts guaranteed to litter the forums on release (Just don't nerf RAZE-LIGHTER okay Bungie, it has a special place in the weapon pantheon for me now. <sniff> It even kept me from saying Luke looks like a hobbit! Err, uh.. Oops. Sorry Luke...) One more Flu... Update (this is tough!) to go this week. Until then... Sols out.
