Game Informer Has A Nine Page Article on Destiny's Story
I was so busy today that I missed this! I'm going to be reading now, but you should check it out too in case you haven't. Let me know what you think. I'm really looking forward to this upcoming story addition. I'll update the thread with my thoughts when I'm done reading.
Edit: Never mind, it's just a summary of the Grimoire and previous events for new players. I got so excited too. However, if you're new to the story or want a refresher, possibly on some things you may not know, this is a good source. Much of it comes from the developers. Still worth a read!

1 ReplyI think I'm in rare company when I say that the story in destiny, or rather, the way they tell the story (grimoire/player theories) fits perfectly with the setting of the game. The whole concept is that so much has been lost from the time of the Golden age until the present that we are searching for what happened, who was involved, and what we can do to stop it.... Finding dead ghosts with a sliver of info or completing objectives that (story wise) no guardian has ever done before makes perfect sense as a story mechanic.

Yes they definitely should have. But if you really can't read between the lines then something is seriously wrong with your brain.

Ahem... TAKEN!!?? It would be nice if they talked about the TAKEN in the TAKEN KING. I like Destiny and the Grimoire that comes with it, and I appreciate Game Informer for making this kind of thing with TTK, but why no Taken? They touch on the Taken and give us abilities we should already know. All they have been talking about is things we know days, even weeks, before the article comes out. I want to know about the Taken in the Taken King.

4 RepliesWhat Bungie did was interesting. I believe now the story [i]is[/i] present in the game... the grimoire completes it to a level that we are used to from Bungie's Halo. However, I think that the majority (not just a vocal minority) doesn't access the grimoire for understanding more of the story. The fatal flaw is then the lack of what I'd call [i]conveyance[/i] of story in the game itself. It would be much simpler if you get 'the full story' just by playing the game. For example, this entire year I never understood what the Vex and that Black Heart had to do with each other. In this article they say the Vex are [i]in possession[/i] of a [i]fragment of the Darkness[/i] (and the Cabal would like a piece of the action). THIS MAKES A LOT MORE SENSE. While playing, this relationship is not explicitly made clear in my experience. The problem of conveyance.

1 ReplyI'm sorry, but after the first 2 expansions I don't care about story anymore. Out of all the features that are coming in TTK, the thing I actually care the least amount about is the story. Maybe i'm alone in this.

I read the article last night, definitely worth reading, wish the story was presented like this in the game but at least now the events of year one make sense, I learned more about what's actually going on reading this article than I did playing the game for 700+ hours and it turns out there really is a very good story hidden away inside Destiny, hopefully in year two this starts to come more to the forefront.
