So for a while now I've been hearing that "only white people can be racist". This has been predominately from some of my very hardcore leftwing friends, and I was just curious as to what you all have to think on the subject. Can only white people be racist? Why do you think the way you do?
-
The thing is, minorities have changed the definition of racism without telling anyone and act like everyone else is ignorant. They believe that racism can only mean systemic racism. Meaning, it's impossible for them to be racists because they are the only ones experiencing systemic racism. As a result, when there are obvious cases where minorities have been racists, I don't call it racism. I call it bigotry and discrimination. I'll continue to call it that until they change those definitions too.
-
Because racism is against minority's yes only whites can be racist. Blacks and Mexicans etc can discriminate but not be racist because they aren't the majority
8%
I weep for humanity

Now a days people confuse racism with racial stereotyping and racial discrimination I can talk shit about white people and not be racist but if I start preaching how they are inferior to my race then it's racism

No, definitely not. Racism, in my opinion, comes in two forms: Social and Personal. Social racism is the kind we most often hear about with major issues. It's is something that is, to a varying degree) ingrained in certain societies. These society benefit from racism in their own ways. In a Western society, social racism against white people only exists in certain communities, but not on a general basis. However, it's much more entrenched in different parts of the world against varying skin colours and cultures. In short, social racism is "us vs them" mentality where anyone who is the "us" are not the victims of the social racism but the oppressors. The social racism here can also be taught to the "them" category to target certain sub-groups within their own: e.g. One group of people of colour such as black people (this is a made up example example) harassing brown people. Personal racism is a prejudice against a race or races. Anyone can have this can be targeted towards any race/skin colour, including ones own. Personal racism is more a prejudice than a social issue (it's still an issue) and can seem like social racism when masses of like minded people come together (in some cases even developing into social racism). There are a few things to note about this though. Racism exists for people not just to hate (that would just be prejudice) but also to gain from. In my opinion, this can be on a person or small-group/community level, even so small as the satisfaction or detest of the results. Another thing is that there is a difference between racism and retaliation against ones attacker. When black people, for example, retaliate against all white people, this isn't usually due to personal or social racism, but because their experience with white people has so often resulted in negative interactions and hate towards theirselves. Think of it like a war. Two sides are fighting and killing each other for whatever reason. Most likely, one side was attacked first so they other fought back. Even though you know that when you're attacking that some of the people you're fighting don't believe in the fight, they are still standing by/supporting it and letting it happen. When you eventually attack their bases and country, there are definitely wholly innocent people, but they look and are "sided" with your enemy, so the difference doesn't matter in those moments. Is the action excusable? No. Is it understandable? Yes. I hope this clears some stuff up.

Imagine if Friday was directed by a white dude

Why can't we all get along? (Enters Bob Marley) One Love! One Heart! Let's get together and feel all right. Hear the children cryin' (One Love!); Hear the children cryin' (One Heart!), Sayin': give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right; Sayin': let's get together and feel all right

Anyone can be racist. White people have no reason to hate most other people. Most everyone else has a good reason to hate white people

Lol no, some moron on HaloArchive (typical angry black sjw) tried to claim that only white people can be racist, that racism is a white construct and if there were no more white people then there would be no more racism. He wasn't trolling. I'm a lefty and a progressive (I believe everyone should be treated with the same respect in the eyes of the law and have equal rights etc) but these ultra progressive SJW's are just a -blam!-ing cancer. The only corect way to respond to an SJW is to laugh at them, don't apologise, don't try to reason with them (because they don't compromise) just laugh and don't stop until they become triggered and run away to their little anti white safe spaces (Tumblr).

Edited by ROBERTO jh: 8/25/2015 3:26:15 PMHere's why this doesn't work. The reason people say only white people can be racist, is because there was this redefinition back in the 70s of the word racism to mean "prejudice plus power". From what I can gather it didn't gain any traction until the modern form social justice activism began, and even then most people don't agree with it. It essentially means that only the privileged race in this country can be racist, in this case white people. But the reason it doesn't work is because it ignores the personal experiences of individuals. By its own definition racism can only ever be systemic, and while i agree there are systemic race issues that persist, this definition eschews any and all forms of personal experiences and focuses exclusively and squarely on the systemic. As a result, considering racism and can only ever be systemic, the very concept of personal racism is essentially meaningless. How can personal racism exist if racism is entirely something engrained within the system from decades ago? There are only two logical conclusions to this. Either everyone who is a part of the privileged group, in this case white people, are racist purely because they're white; or it means the very concept of a racist individual existing at all is a logical impossibility considering that personal racism is impossible. As a result, you will get people who believe this actually telling you that the person who shot up that church in South Carolina Charleston wasn't racist, that it was merely an example of personal prejudice. This is essentially what the logic boils down to. "there is no such thing as personal racism; therefore, that man who murdered your loved ones wasn't racist, he just hates black people." There's a word for this. It's called doublethink, a term dreamt up by George Orwell to describe a state of indoctrination so ingrained, that a person can believe two completely contradictory statements at the same time without any cognitive dissonance. War is peace, freedom is slavery, and that man isn't racist he just hates black people. It is frightening when people truly believe this.

I lived in Mississippi for 4 years. It went both ways but trust me when I say black people can be just as racist
