GameInformer: Old gear not able to ascend in TTK
Wow. Just wow. I'm an alpha player and I've given Bungie the benefit of the doubt over the last year but this just pisses me off. 500+ hours raiding and doing all that stuff so many times and here they go again making all my shit useless again. I hate this game.

I agree, lots of time put into a game and to be told everything we spent so much time to get and upgrade ,to be all for nothing. It's sad because I play a lot of different games and this had become my favorite. ......we overlooked the missteps, but this is intentionally made to screw veteran players to gain noobs. At least give us all our exotics at the new levels or close enough we have a choice to use. Need to fix!

1 ReplyI agree completely. Collected a complete set of trials elemental primaries and for what? I spent a lot a lot of time getting, rolling and leveling gear. And for what? If you wanted to just make a new game, you should have. Resetting all that I have worked for so that you can reskin an existing game and try to get me to play it all over again? I'll pass. Halo and Battlefront will be happy replacements.

Iron Banner, Trials of Osiris, all the Raid Gear, our reforged Legendaries, the entire arsenal we have built (save for exotics) will be made pointless. There is no way that I am going to preorder TTK now. Since the vast majority of our equipment is going to be made worthless, the Taken King better be INCREDIBLE. The reviews for it better be amazing, or I may not continue with Destiny. With the description of the other things that Bungie is doing with TTK, namely the increased focus on storytelling, I haven't completely given up on Destiny yet. But this is a very disappointing piece of news.

10 RepliesMany people claim this is an mmo so it's to be expected. I played Everquest and the Star Wars PC mmo for like 26 days play time each and the hunt for gear was often met with quests and interesting locations, not this joke of repeating strikes and nightfalls. Also, the gear in Everquest consists of hitting a key on a keyboard so you don't notice handling changing. With gun handling you get acclimated to that guns feel and it becomes your go to gun for that reason. Changing the semantics behind that forces you adapt your gunplay which isn't letting you become legend the way you like. I understand it's a mmo fps but they need to understand people get more attached to weapons they use in the first person than some Diablo 3 grind where the skin and animation of the swing is the only thing that changes. I totally feel that ascension is necessary for year two.

I want more variety, different equipped guardians, different looking guardian, different fighting and boss encounter strategies. Allways that gally-fast-kill-strategy is nice, but repetitive and boring as hell! (And dont tell me to "dont use your gally if you want variety!!!" – Its a curse. If you have this extremely mighty and powerful gun, you forcing yourself to use it. Try to use other things for fun, but when its going a little bit harder – Im sure… everyone is swaping his Gally if he/she haves one!!! And thats the final strategy.) Yes, all the time you spend and fighting hard in VoG, Crota to push up your guardian forward are past history. Wonderful memories and at the end of year-1 extremely moments of deadly boredom because the old guns from vanilla outclasses the new guns from exp. 1+2 and the etheric light thing push them up again… but at the end of the line… faithbringer/VoC - shotgun/icebreaker - gally … omg is that time boring and repetitive. Im sooooooooo glad that we left behind that old gear!!! (Especially Gjallarhorn!!!) New year – new stuff - new grind - new items - new strategies and more variety without gally –––> till the next year! If it were up to me I'd would only two exotics pass to year 2! The Vex and Necro as rewards for that players that gets these guns with Lucky-RNG and repetitions of the raids again and again and again. Fyi: Im Beta and Day one Player! PS. Sorry for my bad english – its not my first language. :)

Who cares? Finally I can break free from having to get etheric lights to get my gear to max. I can break free of the armor I never take off. I only swap gauntlets and chestplates. Time to move on guys

For all the fan boy flamers who are gonna say "it's about new weapons" and "welcome to MMO's" and "we don't need you anyway you decroded piece of crap", (in your Napoleon Dynamite voices), you must understand that it's about the grind. It's about the hard freakin work we all put in to get these weapons and armor. It's my money. It's my purchase. It should be my choice what gear I use. If the new stuff is that much better, I won't want to use my old stuff. HoW showed us otherwise. Sure there is some bomb ToO gear but not all of us are down to lag switch our way to victory so...... Honestly, do not kid yourself about this, it is a CREATIVE COP OUT when games make old gear obsolete. It doesn't matter if it's the norm in MMO's. It doesn't matter if you don't care. It is a way to make their new boring ideas relevant. Otherwise it wouldn't be necessary. Give me one other reason why. Just one. I'm waiting. InB4 "they didn't wanna waste dev resources on a new version of etheric light." It's a skinbox kids. A flick of the switch and change of the name is all it would take.

6 RepliesEnjoy the gear you have now. Maybe we'll discover another "Fatebringer" in TTK, and well forge new bonds with the new weapons and armor. You'll still be able to use them, they just won't be that effective. How come people didn't argue about this when they were using a 300 Fatebringer in TDB?

Destiny so far has been a FPS (no question) that has felt like a long beta going in different directions. It seems we are finally coming out of beta and may get the game how it was supposed to originally release. I have enjoyed playing(mostly) but am tired of all my time being negated with every DLC. If this is going to last 9 more years, my progression should not be mostly erased with each new add on, and new players should be able to catch up to my level in 1/8 the time it has taken me. There should be a beginning and progression that follows. A lot of new players and most of the players that start when TTK releases will totally skip VOG and Crota. I don't think anyone should have to suffer through a hard raid if they don't want too, but everyone should have to progress like day one players from level 20 to 29/30 to 31/32 and 33/34 and all the gear should be able to progress along with each player.
