New Heavy Classes

With the addition of sidearms, that gives us 4 primary classes (hand cannon, scout, pulse and auto rifles), 4 special classes (shotgun, sidearm, fusion and sniper rifles), but only 2 heavy classes? To satiate my OCD, lets even that up with two additional heavy classes: Grenade Launchers & Flamethrowers. "But we already have rocket launchers, and we already have grenades, so why grenade launchers?" Well, grenade rounds would be timed (perhaps a perk node allows one to swap between impact trigger, 2 second timer, and 5 second timer). Grenade rounds (on timers) would also go much farther than thrown grenades, and bounce (if on a timer instead of impact trigger). Also, grenade rounds won't have that pesky indicator that alerts your enemies to gtfo. Not only would this weapon be very useful in controlling choke points in PvP, but also stationary/grounded bosses (Walrus Ta'aurc, Phoghat, etc). "Okay, okay, maybe grenade launchers could be sorta cool... But flamethrowers? Really?" Hell yeah flamethrowers. As of right now, both heavy classes are built for range. MGs are just too slow and heavy for close-range combat, and we all know what happens with a point-blank rocket blast... Another great choke point weapon that adds to the variety and strategy of the game. Plus, if Bungie could add some panicked screaming and flailing animations when lighting up a group of Dregs, I'd probably dismantle all three of my ghorns to make room for new flamethrowers! Anyone else got better ideas?

  • I'd like grenade launchers, but think hmgs should do the job of clearing up waves of mobs over a flamethrower. An overlap isn't always a bad thing tho - depends how it's handled. Like you said - It would be cool seeing burning dregs running about :) I'd like to see a charge up laser weapon similar to the one in Halo and for it to replace rocket launchers as the single target dps weapon class of choice. Rockets would still do the job as well as be useful clearing mobs - but not uber at either. The laser launchers would restrict movement speed when equipped and even more when charging up - leaving you vulnerable and having to pick you moments wisely!

  • Grenade launchers should be in the special weapons category. Rail guns should be an option, as well as a plasma cannon. Having a weapon that is a giant version of the fusion rifle would be nice.

    • I was thinking that maybe they could add a fire-arm attachment to some of the rifles. Like grenade launchers, shot guns etc. But I see your point of needing to even out the weapon types in the game. I agree with you, I think a "thump-gun" would be an awesome addition to the game...flame thrower, well that's just down right devious; I LOVE IT! Think of the damage you could do in PvP, not to mention when doing bounties that require you to kill mobs.

    • Rail guns are going to be an addition to the heavy selection. If you look in the artwork Jupiters gambit is not real of course but the stats and perks are much more idealistic. If you remember in halo. Spartan lasers it will be the same concept. If you don't know what the spartan lazer is then it will shoot like a fusion rifle just like queenbreakers bow but with much more charge time.

    • I think modifying the grenades launched from the grenade launchers would be a cool concept that would provide a lot of variety. A few examples would be extra bouncy, anti-grav, sticky, etc... I also agree that a close quarters heavy is needed and flamethrowers would fill that role well.

      • An exotic weapon with an upgrade that allows you to fire grenades from it when equipped would be pretty cool. Also I personally love the idea of flamethrowers, maps like Exodus blue and Blind watch would be fiery chaos when the heavy ammo dropped. As for a new heavy weapon, how about a large laser weapon (Like Halo's Spartan laser) It would take a second or two to charge up but would be devastating when it fired. (Sounds like a giant fusion rifle actually)
