Improving the old Subclasses to the same standard of the new ones.

With the Taken King being the third installment, and with what we've seen of the new Subclasses, it's easy to say that most people will be trying out the new, and pardon my french, bad ass Supers that come with them. Although, this will not last, there will always be a need for a Defender Titan or a SunSinger Warlock, Hunters aren't really limited in the same fashion as their PVP/PVE classes seem to be rather well put together, I'm not as familiar with them so please someone who plays Hunter chime in if you feel you're stuck on one class for optimal PVE/PVP. My point being, is that abilities such as the Hammer of Sol, the new Emperor Palpatine hands, and the bow from the Hunter all look fantastic and fun, and they will be incredibly fun to use again and again. So, where does this leave the other classes? A nice Fist of Havoc can be cool the first times you use it, but eventually it is dry, and you realize the need to be a beefier member of the fire team, this class also doesn't lend very well to Raids as the higher end content requires maximum survivability. So, Defender is where you go, and no one can say they were excited the 50th time you put up your bubble. I'm a Titan because tanking is incredibly fun to me, taking a ton of damage and staying in the fight due to skill is my favorite aspect of gaming, but the Defender is reduced to getting a barrier to stay tanky outside, and when things get tough, or someone is down, you pop your bubble and revive, and the bubble has probably outweighed its usefulness. For Warlocks, the Void Bomb tends to have the same problem as the Fist of Havoc. It's not precise, and while I'm sure many Warlocks can find ways to make the Voidwalker work, the ability to self resurrect is priceless. In Nightfalls, in Raids, in Prison of Elders, it is just incredible for saving fights, or making Last Guardian Standings less stressful. So, where am I going with this. What I'd like to see with the Taken King, although I doubt we will see these changes in this expansion, are improvements to the original sub-classes, and the introduction of either a alternative super for each, or, a improved super. If we look at the new Classes supers, we can not wait to use them over and over. Throwing hammers of fire while you're set aflame just wrecking everything? Destroying tons of enemies with arc lightening from your hands, and making a precise shot to lock down enemies with a bow of Void all look amazing, and all while taking you in third person for a awesome effect. I would want the old supers to reflect this style of running around in third person and doing something tied to the class you're playing. Void Caller can go in third throwing orbs of Void that explode, an alternative to throwing one massive orb. Defender Titan could have a shield, much like the artifact in the Vault of Glass that absorbs and blocks damage, and you can throw it to bounce off of enemies, or explode on one to do massive damage. I'd also like to see more skills that enhance or show visually the class off, I don't think we have enough diversity between the classes, and until we do the game will feel more dull forcing people to switch between sub classes to meet specific needs rather than staying and truly enjoying their class. I hope the new class specific weapons with TTK will hint at these changes I'dl like to see, or exotics that alter supers in the same way, but I guess we will just have to wait and see. If you made it this far thanks for reading.

  • I've actually thought about each node in a subclasses tree having sub-abilities that you'd have to master

  • Is it not unfair to compare current subclasses (which have honed and experienceed by many) to subclasses that we've only seen? Dare I say, try them for yourself before making such posts comparing what we haven't tried yet.

    • Bump, I'm actually hoping Bungie sees this now with as much traffic it's gotten from the community.

Go look at the weekly update where they talked about the new quest system (I'll find the title in a minute). The picture of the new menu tab that shows all the quests shows two that seem to be geared toward "mastering" the existing subclasses, Gunslinger and Bladedancer. Although the specifics are probably different, it's possible you may be getting what you are asking for. Edit: It's the 7/10/2015 update. The quests are "Path of the Bladedancer" and "Pistols of the Sun".

    • Alternate supers may come in the form of those Artifacts that were someone spoiled at the E3 Demo. What if these artifacts ARE in fact the artifacts from the raids, but given to us to use as supers when equipped?

It would be cool if there was multiple super options for a single subclass.. For example arc Titan could have fist of havoc and then a long range arc javelin or something? Idk I didn't put too much thought into the options but you get what I mean.. Would be pretty awesome and add diversity

    • Here is what me and my brother have thought about doing. With the Titan, since they get military training, extensive military training nonetheless, they should be trained in some aspects of stealth, and some knife tactics. Hunters would have decent military training, and sometimes, in other games, (i.e. Skyrim) a rogue will run in with an axe. Yeah, they are still stealth based, but that doesn't stop them from running in guns blazing when the time calls for it. And Warlocks, if they have such powerful arcane knowledge, you would think it would allow them to shape themselves to mimic the other two... since they would know pretty much how the other two operates. What I am saying is, for each class, they have a home element, Titans have Arc light, Hunters have Solar, and Warlocks have Void. For each of their home classes, give them some random aspect of another class. For the Titans, I feel like a throwing knife would make sense, after all, a good majority of the marks have knives, or something like Arc Fist instead of Storm Fist, where it chains through enemies instead of discharge. For the Hunter, I feel like they could emulate something similar to a Berserker Rage from Skyrim. They go insane, their melee attacks do increased damage, and incoming melee attacks do half damage, but as a cost of using it, you lose some of your health. For a Warlock, give them the ability to emulate one of the other classes basic supers (Fist of Havoc and Golden Gun). Albeit they will probably have specific drawbacks like fist of havoc having smaller radius, or golden gun having more kick and less accuracy.

    • Yeah all supers definitely need to buff to make them more usable in the new end game content where if you don't have self res or celestial nighthawk you SOL

    • Can you imagine if they gave you alternarive supers? A defender could get a captain america type shield. It will expire if it takes too much damage or too much energy used fighting enemies and blocking other supers in pvp which will of course expire the shield.

      • If you're a Titan because you like to tank joke's on you. If they don't fix the ram in 2.0 goddamn warlocks will stay the tankiest by around 10%

      • I firmly agree with your statements. However looking at the striker and voidwalker classes, all they really need to do is up the armor so I and others don't die after launching a nova bomb or foh. And secondly increasing their damage. I can't count how many times I've launched a nova bomb at a captain or ascendant knight (without shields) and they survive. Same goes for bosses, I have to wait till they literally have a SLIVER of health left. Perhaps have nova bomb and foh do 1/8 to 1/5 of a bosses health, and any major without a shield dies instantaneously. Also from what you said for a new version of nova bomb, no disrespect intended but it seems really similar to shatter nova bomb. Instead how about some sort of laser beam that does more damage the longer you blast it, but will continue to eat away at your health till you stop or die. And I really hope bungie will see this and do something about it. Because I truly despise using the sunsinger class and I can't count how many times I was kicked from a fire team because I wanted to use voidwalker.

      • While the new subclasses look very cool, I don't find them more powerful than the other subclasses. I think they'll be balanced, but if they aren't I definitely want them to be balanced

      • Valid points I can only have faith that they have taken time to consider the issues you raise. If not done so already. Every guardian needs to feel like he is an important member of his or her own little role. Would be a shame to see a wedge driven in where it doesn't need to be.
