Fireteam X: Book 4, Epilogue

Epilogue Salaadin Forge stoked the fires of his furnace. The legendary Titan was doing what he did best when he was not running the Iron Banner. He was forging armor for the guardians of the city. The chestplate he was working on was a masterpiece, with spectacular images engraved in it. He hammered at the piece, molding it into the most perfect shape possible. "Keeping busy, are we?" Salaadin turned, startled at the intrusion, causing him to miss the chestplate, hitting the unbreakable anvil and shattering the hammer. He cursed, it was his favorite hammer. "Don't you knock?" his visitor, the Speaker, shook his head. "Or even announce your arrival? You would think the Speaker would be somebody who often has something to say." "I assume you are aware of Shaxx's request? To turn Bannerfall into an arena?" Salaadin frowned. His old apprentice had an unhealthy obsession with turning places of importance into warzones. "I heard, and I don't care if he wants to turn this place into a battleground, but you do." he stared at the Speaker, wondering for the millionth time who was the man behind the mask. "I'm not leaving." "Aren't you concerned about a war being on your doorstep?" the Speaker picked up the blazing chestplate on the anvil, ignoring the flames that would have given a regular man third degree burns. "People know better than to enter my home." he checked through his pile of tools, looking for a better hammer, when he had a thought. "Except for you, why is that?" The Speaker sighed, placing the chestplate back down on the anvil. "We're running out of time." "I thought you said we had enough." "We don't. He is coming closer to the truth, Eris feels it is only a matter of months." "They aren't ready." "That is why you must prepare them." "Osiris saw this coming you know." "Yes, I know. But the Trials test a guardians light, you must test how they will handle in a war." the Speaker began to walk away. He paused at the door, without turning around. "Maybe you are not using the right Hammer." Salaadin stood still as a pillar for a minute, then sighed. He unleashed his power, summoning a flaming hammer he had kept hidden for so long. "I've always had the right hammer, but I never thought i'd need to use it." he hammered away at the chestplate, and when it was finished, he hurled the Hammer of Sol at the giant disk of the Iron Banner. The sound of the gong rang out throughout the tower. Everyone who had heard the sound tensed in preparation. Iron Banner was coming. _______________________________________ End of Book 4.
