Transmogrification, or colloquially known as transmogging, is the ability to take the stats and abilities of one armor piece, and transfer them to another piece of armor. This is done for pure aesthetic and customization purposes, and while Bungie isn't allowing transmogging specifically, the Ascension system does allow for greater customization of your Guardian, which is more or less the same.
