Game improvements with minimal efforts from Bungie

TL;DR My background: Computer Science degree, software development experience, budding game developer. Things I believe Bungie is working on: -New Areas/locations -More Vault Space -Third subclasses Things I believe Bungie is not working on: -Weapon Crafting Things that require minimal effort to add that would greatly expand the game: -New Bounties (Class specific, multi-part bounties, community bounties, other NPC bounties) -Reputation for other NPCs (Weaponsmith, Speaker, etc.) -Social Space Public Events -Patrol Area Improvements (Landing in different areas, opening areas that are only in story missions, etc.) Summary: The goal is to get the most bang for your buck. These task would require much less of software and story/content developers time to implement compared to other large game features like new campaign missions and brand new areas. Full Version: My background consists of a degree in computer science and several years experience in software development teams as well as a budding game developer. I am by no means an expert on game development, but I understand the complexities of developing software as well as how reusing parts of a game in new ways can greatly increase user experience with minimal effort. All of these improvements/suggestions use current game mechanics and just expand on current game constructs. These are all ideas to make the current aspects of the game a little more diverse and feel like a fully functioning world. The idea was to minimize the amount of work Bungie might need to do to implement some of these ideas by using mechanics we already know to exist in the game. I am sure some of these ideas have been thrown out there before, or Bungie is already considering things like them, or Bungie has clearly stated they aren’t doing anything like what I’ve written below. It is hard to aggregate all of the communities comments on their ideas for the game, so I apologize if I have duplicated anyone else’s ideas here. It is also hard to know what Bungie has planned for the future. So, for all we know, they are already planning some of these things and may have never even considered others. Things I believe Bungie is working on for future content: -New Areas - creating new areas is probably one of the most time intensive processes for any game, so a year time table after release seems reasonable to me
-Expanding on current locations (adding to Cosmodrome, Ocean of Storms, etc.) -Adding new locations to current planets (Chicago, London, Olympus Mons, etc) -Adding entirely new locations (Titan, Rhea, Jupiter, Saturn, etc.)
-More Vault Space
-Think the initial increase was a simple fix that they came up with as fast as possible. I think a longer term plan is in the works, but it may not arrive until the large expansion in fall 2015.
-Third subclass
-It makes perfect sense that there is both an empty slot in the menu for another subclass -Having a subclass for each damage type also rounds out the game play nicely
Things I believe Bungie is not working on for future content: -Weapon crafting (unfortunately)
-Reforging took the spot of crafting. It is still random perks, but if everyone could choose the exact perks they wanted, we’d have the same perks on every item out there
Things that require minimal effort to add that would greatly expand the game: Bounties - -Class specific bounties from respective vanguards, maybe once a week, only available after level 15? 20?
-Cayde has you hunt down a VIP, multi-part tracking over several planets -Ikora has heard of new cache of Golden Age knowledge guarded by VIP(s) -Zavala has an important area(s) that needs to be defended/cleared of enemies
-More multi part bounties like exotic bounties, with better/higher rewards -Bounties from other NPC’s in Tower
-Weaponsmith - needs a bunch of items collected (special weapon parts from certain enemies, certain quantity of planetary materials for new weapons, etc.) -Cryptarch - heard rumors of an engram cache, reward you with automatic reputation level up. -Shipwright - The city is in dire need of new ships/ship parts/fuel, turn in a certain quantity of ships/parts, hunt loot caches in certain areas for new ships; Eliminate enemy anti-aircraft team(s) in certain areas (equipped with new Scorch Canons) -Special Orders - A team of guardians that went to retrieve a package failed, she needs you to go finish what they started -Speaker - The City is in need of certain supplies (planetary materials, certain enemy items, certain amount of rare weapons or armor), reward with Motes of Light -Xur - He requires a super rare, curious item deep within an enemy stronghold (Winter’s Ketch, The Juncture, King’s Watch, harder places to get, reuse rare areas), reward with Strange Coins
-With the addition of a lot more bounties, maybe there would be a limit of how many bounties you can turn in each day (15?) to help limit how fast player could level up characters. Or, maybe no limit, if guardians want to put in the time, they can complete them all each day. -Community Bounties
-Goals/Events for whole Destiny community to participate in -Event would last a weekend or limited time -After weekly reset, if previous community bounty was completed, everyone gets some reward package in mailbox -Example: “We have reports of the Hive flooding areas with Wizards. Reduce their numbers across all arenas.” - Community as a whole has a goal of killing 1 million wizards during a weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun).
Reputation -Add reputation gains for other vendors for doing the above mentioned quests
-Weaponsmith - Once at a certain reputation level, he’ll offer you a random legendary weapon to purchase, rotates every week. “Hey, since you’ve helped me out in the past, I wanted to help you out. Take a look at my special stock.” -Speaker - Maybe make this the hardest reputation to level up, either in quantity of points needed or the very limited number of ways you can gain reputation with the Speaker, rewards could include special emblems for each class at different levels of reputation or class items. Reputation could be gained by completing the main campaign stories, participating in certain public events, leveling up your reputation with all of the vendors/NPCs in the Tower.
Social Space Public Events -Tower - Guardians in tower get a notification that an enemy assault party has has been spotted approaching a certain portion of the wall or just near the City (could have different areas, maybe use the Crucible maps), and asked if they would like to join the fight to fend them off. If the guardian accepts, they get sent to the area and proceed to fend off waves of said enemy, just like in the ‘Defend the Warsat’ public events. An example reward could be if you participate in 5 of these events you get an emblem “Defender of the Wall/City” or something similar. -Reef - Guardians in the Vestian Outpost get a notification saying that a group of enemies has broken out of the Prison of Elders and need to be stopped before reaching the hanger. Reward could be similar to the Tower event, after participating in 5 events, you get special emblem “Defender of the Reef”. Patrol -Let us land in more than one spot on each planet. There is no reason why we can start our patrol missions in the same spots that we spawn for any other mission. -Opening areas up that are normally only open during a mission
-Even small areas like “The World’s Grave” room or “Kings Watch” -These could provide more destinations for VIP patrol missions -Allow people to experience and explore these areas without having to go through entire missions
Thanks everyone and let me know your thoughts.

 • Looks like I got a few things right from Bungie's initial overview of The Taken King. They're talking about 'questifying' the bounties and story missions making them more like the exotic bounties, they are adding at least one more area, the Juggernaut ship of Oryx, and could be adding more that we just don't know about, and the third subclasses have been confirmed, though I won't give myself too much credit on the last one, it was kind of obvious they were headed that way.
