Looking to upgrade my console, tell me what I should get and why

Get a PS4

2769

Get a Xbox One

3310

################################# Hey everyone, I really appreciate all of the feedback! It was great to hear a lot of real opinions, suggestions, and information about both systems. It was a lot of reading last night / this morning to catch up on everything, but I feel WAY more informed than before. I made this post to get some information to help me make a good decision on a new console and I think with all of your help it did. Didn't make this to troll/start a huge debate on here, but I guess it comes with the territory on a forum where people are passionate about their gaming systems. I made a random decision yesterday and pre-ordered the TTK PS4. I have enough store credit from previous trade ins at GameStop to make it affordable. Also will be trading in my 360 for an additional $100 off. So it looks like I will be starting from scratch, but I have enough friends on the PS+ network to make it fun. Again, I really appreciate all of the feedback/suggestions/opinions from you guys. It was a great read and I think I learned all I needed to make the right decision for myself. Also, thanks for all of the congratulations on me becoming a dad. Although I am still about 6 months out from having that new little one in my arms, I couldn't be more excited about it. Thanks again, guardians. ################################# I've had a Xbox 360 for a few years now and most of my friends either have a Xbox One or a PS4 (it's about a 50/50 split). I recently found out that I am going to be a dad (due late January 2016) and because of this and all of the future late nights that come with that in my future, I got permission from the wife to upgrade, so help me figure out what to get. Since I am already a Microsoft user, obviously going with the Xbox One seems like the easiest one to upgrade to, but I'm open to suggestions. For the Xbox, I am already familiar with the Xbox Live stuff and I'm already paying the yearly online fee, no need to cancel service etc. If I upgrade to the Xbox One, do I need to start over with new characters or would my character carry over? Is the Xbox One backwards compatible with my current 360 games (Destiny, Halo Series, GTA5) or do I have to buy new games no matter what? Any other benefits to sticking with Microsoft? As for the PS4, I don't have too much knowledge about this system. I've heard it's got better graphics, but I've also heard the online servers are unreliable leaving you unable to play often? Is it worth it? What other reasons make it worth switching?

      • I have both XBone and PS4.. The PS4 controller is much more comfortable and feels more natural when you hold it and press the shoulder buttons/triggers. Dashboard on the Xbone is straight garbage. I would say get a PS4 but that would mean you need to start destiny fresh which is not fun...

      • With the whole "backwards compatibility" (because not all the games are coming) on its way, xbox one is the way to go imo. You definitely have to get used to the dashboard (it was pretty weird) but the controllers felt good. I had a power supply go on me (yet a other thing to consider) and when I went back to the 360, the controller didn't feel good anymore. I'd say, go with your friends.

The Windows 10 Integration should also be awesome. It's all linked to your Xbox Live profile. So you keep all your stuff (I moved from 360 to Xb1)

      • I had the same issue leaving 360, except the baby (he was already one lol).. But all my friends had split between the two and I couldn't decide, I even put up a Facebook status to check. Ps4 won by a landslide on that post lol, not one xboner stood up for their console, so I got a ps4 and I love it, for me I prefer the ps4 controller and for me psn isn't that unreliable.. Going down 4 times in a year isn't the worst thing to happen lol. I didn't have destiny so didn't have to worry about losing characters, only character I was worried about was GTA 5 but I could transfer him so not a problem. But as you have destiny I would probably stick with the xb1

      • I would say PS4 if not for the fact that you're already on Xbox. Not worth losing your progress. People will argue about which system is better, but the truth is that both will do the same thing for you.

Software has close to zero difference as 99% of games are ports. My advice is if you are young, get an Xbox one, if older get a ps4. PS4 community in my experience is a bit more mature, this isn't a dig, it's just based on my own experience. I have a ps4 as do a few friends, my son who is 12 has an Xbox One and most of his age go with Xbox, I like the differential to be honest. I have noticed there is a lot more hate mail flying round on Xbox after games like FIFA, COD etc, I suspect this is due to the age of the user base. Also, as someone who has both consoles in my house, the White ps4 is lovely and looks like a work of art. The Xbox in my opinion is a little ugly and will date quite badly.

Ps4 and not even close. And this coming from a person that had a 360 last gen. The sales should speak for themselves.. If you want a giant cable box/vcr then get a X1. Everything runs much smoother on the ps4, and the UI is much better, you don't have to pin stuff to navigate faster like the x1. Lol. I had a x1 and took that garbage back And not to mention ps4 is focused on mainly gaming, x1 is more focused on the entertainment part a bit more.

        • It all depends on you mate. If you really care for graphics and frame rate then get a PC. Aside from that, Sony has been getting bad reputation. (they are becoming greedy like EA) if you really don't care about it go for a PS4 if you prefer the exclusives and since destiny gives exclusives to PS4, it has better graphics than the xbox one but its the games that matter. So if you like the exclusives on Xbox then get an Xbox one. Xbox is partnering with pc which you will get pc games that can be played on xbox. Also you will be able to play xbox games on your PC. Eventually PC is going to play all xbox games which may include destiny 2(future). #gamersmasterrace.

          • I played plenty on PS4 and found I do not like the controller as it felt to plastic, and in intense moments when I gripped the controller my hand actually hurt a little and the heat that comes off that thing is so noticeable....not trying to be fan boy here, just saying what I observed.

          • Stick with what you've had. Psn is apparently a worse service than xbl. Backwards compatability is on its way but I think that's digital only. But games with gold should fix that nicely. (ps4 owner here). And at present xbox ones are going for a song.

            • For me, the PS4 has a better DVR. 12 (or 14, I forget) minutes at the press of a button vs. 40 seconds or the last 3 and 5 minutes after fumbling though menus. But a major draw to Xbox One is built in Skype. Parties are okay, but I'm in some Skype chat groups and I can have calls with friends. Only downside is you can't start calls on the Xbox if there are more than 4 people in the group already, otherwise, someone on a PC needs to start the call. Unfortunately/fortunately for me, I started on PS4, got the sweet original iron banner cape, tumbler sparrow and the beta player emblem, then all my PS4 friends quit playing, and I can't bring those things to Xbox One. But I have tons of friends on Xbox who play regularly, and I haven't touched my PS4 in a month or two. I would say go for Xbox One. But go where ever you have more friends to play with.
